Was installing a game and my laptop indicated the battery was low and shut off while on AC. Would not power on or any lights.

    Swapped memory, gpu, nothing.

New motherboard came. Installed and best it does is flash my alien heads. When u press the button it seems to power on trip and than flash on and off slowly.

Removed one component at a time. Nothing changes. All thats left is a mobo and indicator panel.

Results are the same for both motherboards.

Could it be the indicator panel or ribbon cable?

    OK...

So noticed the touch pad runs off the same 16 pin ribbon cable. Take note everyone. No change so I know my ribbon cable is OK and not to blame.

For sure there is a short of some sort. Press the power button, goes solid, then flicks, and jumps into the fade-in and fade-out mode.

Pissed off, I reassembled it with all the original components. For sh!ts and giggles I hit the power switch and it turned on.... Than died when I booted into Windows.

Disabled everything within the bios. Going through it one by one to see what causes it. So far, I seem to have the shut off issue when bluetooth is on and my bus speeds are linked. Could be just random luck but I'm going to see if I can get it to repeat.

Otherwise I'm still unsure if it's broke or just haunted or stupid... Anyone able to chime in?

Did you check the PSU? You could also try to power on with just the motherboard and lcd connected, then add all other components one at a time.

I was about to suggest the same thing. It may be the PSU!

There's also a chance that the new motherboard has a short just like the old one.

Hey guys, been meaning to chime back in.

I forgot to mention in my original post that I used an alternative PSU, GPU, HDD and Memory.

Both motherboards were dead as can be. Best I could get both too do upon powering up is the Alien heads would glow solid, trip off and than flash on and off slowly; both on battery and a/c power.

I removed every component one by one until all I had connected was the LCD, and nothing else. I eventually gave up and assumed that both motherboards were both faulty and put my original back in and put the system back together. For the sake of trying, I hit the power button and it fired up.... Than died at the Windows boot screen. I went into the bios and turned things off like the adapters etc, and it eventually got to Windows. I now have everything back on and in it's original state and the system is running fine, even put my 7970M back in and so far, it's OK.

I'm a bit lost for words how this all transpired and how it went from dead to operational. Really am...

Ok. I got similar problem had new motherboard fitted almost a year ago, its been working perfect! went to steam, it downloaded elder scrolls vs skyrim, i opened it up, started off playing and it shutdown completely! When i refit the power into the laptop the blue light switches off and stays off. I used another backup power cord same thing. The blue circle light comes back on if it turned off and back on by main power supply plug, but ends up with same when i reinsert to the laptop.

I have tried resetting cmos, also removed battery, holding down for 10sec and 20sec as well didnt work, using only power without battery as well, still the same, basically there is no power at all!! Its like the laptop is rejecting any power.. What could be the problemo?? Anyone let me know pls thanks
