I really missed the old M15x. I know the new m17x R3 was supposedly to be the M15x's replacement, but a 17inch just doesn't seem portable to me and the current M14x just lacks a little on the performance side.

Is there any hope that dell is going to reintroduce the M15x with perhaps the 580m or do I have to wait for the M14x R2?

Both those things aren't gonna happen. The M17x R3 isn't that much bigger than the M15x. In fact it is about the same size, and thinner in the middle and heaps smaller than the M17x R2 because it uses a 16:9 screen and not a 16:10 one. You also have to remember that the M15x is really a 17 inch laptop with a 15 inch screen. Plus there is no way that a 580m or equivalent will go into a M14x the chassis will melt. If I were you, I'd just go with the M17x R3.

    Well the m17x r3 has 40.6 x 32.1 x 5.4 cm

    The m15x has 37,8 x 30,8 x 4,8 cm

The weight is equal at 4,1 kg

I am also very unhappy that the m15x got discontinued 2 Month after i buyed one... i only hope they will fix the fan bios issue on the m15x..

Now im starting the system on battery mode since a month and i didn´t had the problem yet, but thats for me no option for the future, just ****ing holarious...

right it stops once the gpu gets warm a little, the change in temp kicks in the speed controller or something.

Upgradable but at the cost of an arm and leg per part.

    M14x is the new M15x.

Although, you suffer the horsepower of the laptop for mobility and size.

@Kaizenmx -- ^^^ Egad! No laptop with the graphics card soldered in can be considered a successor to the noble M15x. The M14x is more of a M11x upgrade. Sad as it may be, the M17x-R3 is the designated successor to the M15x.

I'm loving mine, it's almost a year old now and still going strong. I might have to upgrade my gpu though. (=
