Does anybody know if I can use the Win7 discs that came with my laptop will
work on another system? I have an HP laptop that came with Vista and after
a recent attempt to restore factory settings (which failed dramatically, thanks
HP!) it appears I've wiped the OS... The HP didn't come with ANY Windows
discs, which I find incredibly annoying. The fact that I might have to pay £89
for a new set of discs due to a hardware fault is quite frankly absurd. I've
already PAID for the laptop and I think it's disgusting that they expect me to
re-buy the OS. Anyway, anybody know if there will be any issues with this?

The (very unhelpful) fat man in a local computer shop seemed to think it would
work although I'm not too sure if I trust him coz he repeadedly pointed out that
he would be able to do it much cheaper than me. But based on the way he
spoke to me I'd much rather pay £89 for a new set of discs than give him £54
to fix the issue (might sound dumb but I'm holding onto my principles here).

    Thanks in advance!

If the HP lappy came preinstalled with Vista, the Windows 7 recovery disks will only be helpfull on a Windows 7 machine (the one that the disks are made for).
Either borrow or download your version of Vista and custom install the OS. Use the COA on the machine to activate the install. You may have to place a call to MS if there are any issues, but (as you say) you have already purchased the product; there is no need to do so again.

    Actually, you are entirely incorrect.

The M15x ships with a Windows 7 DvD, not a recovery disk, the two are very different. A Windows 7 DvD will allow you to install on any other laptop or desktop.

What you really need to be concerned about is activating Windows once you've installed it, as you don't hold a key (license) unless you remove Windows from your M15x, and use the key which is printed beneath the battery. This is of course if you play by the rules and obey the law..... not everyone does.
