I have 6 computers and 5 received the free upgrade applet. you guessed it all but the Alienware M15x. I have upgraded to a 560m vid card and according the troubleshooting I have done with microsoft, it wont offer the upgrade because it claims i will have issues with the video card in 10. Wondering A if I could put hte old 260m back in and upgrade then swap back or is this just an issue with old nvidia cards. Figured this would be hte best place to start for info if anyone else has run into this yet.

You could try puttig back the old card. Have you tried doing a clean vidoe driver installation? And DirectX 10/11 installation?

You have a full year to upgrade to Windows 10 for free. I would simply hold off a few months after the release and see if they start support for your card. Most lack of support upon initial release is to prevent and influx of troubleshooting complaints when they know there will be issues, give them time to sort it.

That doesn't make sense! The 560m is newer than the 260m by far. I managed to reserve the upgrade on my m15x with the even newer 680m.

I agree with the above post. By then you can also upgrade the gpu to something like 970m and upgrade win 10 for a great all round experience!

Bele and I ran into the same incompatibility issue when trying to install Windows 10 on our laptops, as you can see in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/windows-10-help.779218/

My initial thought was to do as you suggested; swap my 680m with my 460m and install, then swap them back. However, I was able to avoid that process entirely by downloading and running this setup straight from Microsoft: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Windows 10 installed flawlessly on my M15x and all I had to do from there was install Windows 10 drivers for my 680m from Nvidia.com, modify the .inf, restart and disable Driver Signature Enforcement, and the drivers installed.

The only issue I had with 7970m was that the screen brightness didn't work. Searched the web and there was a fix via Regedit... now works fine!

Seems like the computer got a bit smoother as a result, especially on games like fallout 3.
