hey guys i have another question for you all.

the $1599 m15x Intel® CoreTM i5 540M with 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1066Mhz and ATI HD5850 Mobility RadeonTM is what i have been looking at and thinking of buying. A buddy of mine showed me the ASUS G73JH-X1 Newegg.ca - ASUS G Series G73JH-X1 NoteBook Intel Core i7 720QM(1.60GHz) 17.3" 8GB Memory 500GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870

The acer just seems like a more powerful laptop for less. I was wondering what you guys thought. Is this just a better deal, or are asus laptops of poorer quality?

any input would be greatful, thanks.

I don't have any firsthand experience with Asus laptops, but I did a good bit of research before I bought my M15x. I chose it over a similar Asus because of the far superior cooling. Check out the Asus forum - you'll see the G73 runs quite a bit hotter than the M15x.

Since you are posting this in the AW section, I assume you prefer the Alienware?

I got the alienware and havent been regretting this decision. (also, I will never buy an Asus laptop for myself ever again)

For me it was about owning an Alienware computer more than value for money - to be honest I just needed a netbook for managing my home network and I could have got something suitable for $250 second hand. If you are going to base your decision on money then there are better deals out there - you certainly pay about 15% extra for the Alienware logos and lights :)

With alienware, the materials are higher quality and you'll be able to resell it for more if necessary. Those were the two main factors in my choice of Alienware.

Like others have said, the M15x runs cooler, and it better built. Also, the G73 is 17.3", so you need to factor in portability.

If you want the most powerful machine out of the two, and don't mind about portability and build quality so much, then go for the G73.

The M15x is not far behind in the power dept compared to the ASUS G73 so it's not downgrading at all .
Also I think the AW looks much, much better.
    I also hate 17" laptops..Lol
    but that's just me.

Also it should be noted that the M15X and M17X are fully customisable with loads of options to fit your budget and needs - most other laptops vendors offer very little upgradability beyond extra memory and HDD size.
