    hey all,

I have dropped the laptop charger brick from quite high up right on top of the keyboard. this made the screen go black and I heard the horrible lagging sound from speakers.

when I tried restarting, I was greeted with 2 beeps, meaning no memory/RAM found, and then a solid red screen. the leds and fan still working.

opened the laptop up and found that top slot ram stick was knocked half way out. reseated it, but still same beeps. have also tried swapping the sticks and using just 1 in both slots.

    any help?

    thanks

ps. the hit was pretty hard, and bent the keyboard. when I took it out it had flex and visible bend line.

I have also tried with no sticks in, which gave me keyboard lights code about no memory. so if that is recognized, guess mobo is fine, right?

I don't know... try without just the one stick that was busted... does it boot then?

Do you have another piece of ram? Try that.

If that doesn't work, then my vote would be that your mobo is toast, but I am not an expert....

Try other sticks of ram in your laptop, or your ram sticks in another laptop. If you open your laptop, you could also check if your ram socket is intact.

checked this ram on other laptop and it worked. other ram didn't. so I would say dead motherboard. anyone knows where I could get one cheaper?

also is it possible that some other part is not working? something that is connected to mobo, like CPU? I find it weird that I get memory beep but ram works fine

Ram socket? Have you tried one stick in both top and bottom sockets? Try reseating CPU, graphics card and hard drive.

tried it with different ram as well, all combinations. when taking out mobo, I had to take out all the components, so tried that as well.

    hopefullyits just some chip fried.

is it possible for mobo to fry other components as well, like CPU?

I would go for the RAM socket, you could get a mobo on ebay or parts-people.com.
