    I got a 2009 Alienware M15x with 1st generation i7 and a GTX260M CPU.

Can I upgrade this laptop with current MB, CPU, GPU?

Yes! You don't need to update the MB but you can upgrade to an i7-920xm or 940xm cpu which can be easily overclocked.
Most new gpus work in the m15x including the 7970m which is being sold in brand new M17x by dell.
I think someone even got a gtx 680m to work in an M15x! Another good choice is the GTX 660m which can also be overclocked but requires a small driver tweak.
The AMD 6970m ,6990m and 7970m are all plug and play in the M15x!

The world is your upgradable oyster

Seriously what is up with all these upgrade threads. This question has been answered half a dozen times already just this month.

OP please use the search function and indeed google to do research first. Your questions are easily answered with a little time spent.

Maybe we can make a sticky of all the upgrades available and then nobody will need to ask again :D

    Cheers

See it as a cool thing! All these people choosing a 3 year old laptop and upgrading to be better than the current M14x.

Products like this don't come around very often as manufacturers seem to build in self-destructs into tech gear so you need to buy newer ones. My friend still has a first gen ipod still going strong with several newer ones having all failed!

I can see the M15x becoming a collectible especially if AMD and Nvidia continue using the MXM 3.0 connector!

Sure is. Soldered GPU, one-fan cooling system, and plastic chassis are all no-no's especially for enthusiasts like us. Only things I see going for the M14x are the longer battery life, lighter weight, and of course SATA III. But who needs that when all we want is more gaming powahh :p
