M15x with 460m/5850 can play most games out there at high/max.

If she's buying from Alienware, then the base spec M17x-R3 would be a much better choice.

I'd go with JohnnyFlash on this one
Although, if she's really gunning for a 15", then an 840/940XM, 6GB of RAM, and a 460M would work great.
I personally have the 840, 6GB of RAM, and 460M and notice a bit of a lag on Black Ops & Bad Company 2 (only ones from the list I've used) but i haven't tried while OC'ing the GPU.
Replacing the Internal Optical Drive for an SSD would be an awesome performance boost with everything from boot times to games loading, if you're looking at a little bit of modding as well.

Well, M15x may have a 15-inch screen, but the entire laptop size closely approximates the 17-inch laptop, aka M17x-R3. Thus, there is no reason of getting M15x now. I believe that in many aspects, M15x is inferior to M17x-R3, while both of them weigh about the same. Granted, M17x-R3 is partially made of plastic. Spec-wise, M17x-R3 is way better, if not the same, as others discussed.

    My advise: Purchase M17x-R3 instead.

    i play
Bad company 2 on high settings vsync on 1x antistrophic filtering, 2xmsaa, shadows low and everything else high native resolution 1600x900 with great frame rates never drop below 30.
crysis 2 i play on the medium setting with vsync off and gets pretty good fps 25-40
black ops plays ok on high i geta bit of stuttering but handles medium no problem.
i tried the shogun 2 demo on max settings and was very playable with the occasional stutter.
i also can handle starcraft 2 on ultra in 4v4 games with 20-60fps pending what your doing so i usually just play on high because at my resolution the difference is not very noticeable on a big screen it would be.

i would agree though either go for the m17xr3 or wait because this thing is not very portable battery life sucks and the m17 is not that much larger and you get much more.

I'm pressed to say that it will play the graphically intensive games better.
League of Legends Knowledgebase :: System Requirements

^- System Requirements for League of Legends lead me to believe (coupled with my own experience) that a higher clocked dual core (than the i7-720/740QM) would perform better for this game than the quad core i7.

The only reason I mention this is because most of the games you listed are GPU bound, not CPU bound like how I'm finding LoL to be.

Definitely go with the M17x R3 b/c of the higher clocked 2630QM processor, it'll perform better for LoL (and everything else as well).

I'd think Leauge of legends would be her least concern. She has a older Asus g51 and that runs its at 50-70.
