    hey all,

just a quick question. does clevo 7970m fully work with m15x? well apart from vbios flashing and ocasional throtling ? also will fans work auto or manual way?

everyone seems to have dell made cards, but I have an offer, which gets me clevo 7970m for around £200

    thanks

That is a good price. With clevo card you won't have automatic fan control which really annoyed me when I had a clevo 6990m. Fans fully spooled up until hwinfo loaded all sensors and starts fan controller.

Also DP might not work. That is a good price though. I paid a fair bit more for my Dell card.

    I'm sort of stuck between the clevo 7970m for £200 +import fees, or a 670m for £165.

Don't get the 670m. It uses the Fermi architecture which uses more power and produces more heat. Try to get a kepler chip if you go the nvidia route. I know the 670mx or 675mx as well as 680m all work in M15x with slight driver inf modifications.
If you want plug and play try to get a 6970m or 7970m. The 6990m runs very hot!

If you are ok with the fan control issues I detailed above I'd definitely get that clevo 7970m. Many M15x and M17x owners are using clevo cards in their laptops with no problem.

can't find any cheap mx cards and 680m is just too expensive. I guess I will go for the 7970m

7970 FTW! Still no auto fan control but it's the best upgrade possible on that machine. It has not been verified by our engineers so it will not be officially supported by the warranty terms but we have seen many success stories with it.

Actually based on recent findings the 680M is the better card in the M15x due to using less power (the vram is considerably lower power) this makes the 680M a much better fit for the machine without throttle issues.

The 7970M takes quite a bit of tweaking the find the sweet spot but is as you say much cheaper.
