    CompuTrace/ LoJack for Laptops does not come 'installed' in Alienware machines. I use the software because I travel a lot. The subscription is annual, paid in advance, you set up the level of security and it works great. You have to flash the bios to remove it and Im really surprised you found it. Im also wondering where you got the laptop from.

    @hubb1100
    Why so surprised?
    I have the same thing and I got mine directly from the Dell website.
    I have yet to utilize it, but it is an option

    I was surprised anyone would find it in the bios, at least that was the way I read this.
    Later it is reported it was 'just a manual'. Im not surprised that anyone found a manual or brochure.

    Again, It's a great insurance, that I use and have subscribed to since July 2010. Of course the warning sticker, in my original post, is an additional step to warn the prospective thief.

    Consider this: IF your laptop is stolen and it is (boot up) password protected, the thief replaces the hard drive and installs Win 7. Now that the machine doesn't transmit to CompuTrace; How do you think you can recover your laptop? .. There is an answer ..

    most people that or ignorant enough to steal a laptop dont go threw that kind of trouble.best bet is to just encrypt your hard drive and jujst keep them from stealing your information.
    Bios passwords and windows paswords are a joke to anyone that would want your info

    The question was 'How to recover your machine';
    IF you decide to use LoJack, the best way to recover you machine is,
    to provide a password free, guest account, so your laptop gets plugged into the internet.

    Of course responsible habits, like not leaving your computer unattended is best.
    The thief seldom cares what is in the machine, just the machine itself. As witnessed. Not cool.
