Replaced the fried mobo and the HDD for an SDD. windows is updating while we speak!
I'm very excited to get my old laptop back and I'm wondering how does my old tech compare with todays tech?
Can I expect driver issues with win 10?
Are the any drivers that are best for this old system other than the official ones?
Are there any firmware updates I should be aware of?
I'm totally gonna upgrade the GPU but not before the new year. If anyone wants any benchmarks or anything using my specs please let me know....It's nice to be back!!! I'm looking forward to being more involved in these forums again.

    Welcome back!

I went to Win 10 as an upgrade and I didn't have any issues. Didn't keep it all that long.

Make sure you are on BIOS A09.

If you overclock the 920XM and get a 970M (recommended top card) you will need more power. Get the slim 240w PSU, turn off the A/C adapter warning in the BIOS and it will charge your battery while powering your system. No need to pull the center pin or right angle adapters. I have tested this with 2 systems and it works perfectly. Or, if the slime 240w PSU is too much money then buy the 201w A/C adapter. It works the same, just a lot bulkier.

You can go to 16GB if you feel inclined to do it. It won't show up in the BIOS but will still work and be recognized by Windows.
