    hi all,

I want to upgrade my graphics card for my m15x (specs as listed on my profile). Its got a HD5730M. My question is, if I upgrade it to a HD5870M, will there be much performance boost? I play latest games, specially BF3. I can only play it with Low settings at 1280x720 smoothly. Will I be able to play it at native 1600x900 High settings?

PS: the HD5870M has been pulled out of an M17x R2.

    Cheers,
    Big D.

Absolutely. I initially had the 5730 but within the first week I phoned dell and got the 5850. Easily got 40 - 50% increase. It made games actually playable. The 5850 is an under clocked 5870 so the increase between the two is 5-10%. Hope this helps.

I clock my 5850M to just over 5870M clocks, and I can generally edge out 30fps on most games with high/medium (sometimes a mix of high/medium, just depends on what I like tbh) @ 1920x1080 on graphic intensive games e.g. Crysis, BF3 etc.

from what we see out there, most of 5850 with fine tuning is actually surpassed 5870...

not to mention the installation is easier on M15x compared to 5870.., since dell originally support 5850

but yeah, it's hard to find nowaday... so 5870 should be good option as well today...

hd5870m pulled from alienware m17x only for $200 (with postage). I think its really good value.
