My warranty expires in 2 days, so I called dell to ask about extending it. I got outrageous prices for anything. The base 1 year warranty was $280 and the 3 year super warranty is over $800?!?!?!?! Anyways, my main question is how to get a discount. I have heard so many times that people order from dell over the phone and get discounts! So, is there any certain tip to get them to give me a discount? just be nice? or is it actually false that they do give discounts at all.

On a similar matter, we all know the M15x is going to be extinct soon. What would happen if I accidentally broke a crucial part after they discontinue the M15x? would they have to give me a M17x R3? how long do you think it is before they run out of spare parts for M15x?

Gonna tell you right now that this thread is gonna get locked soon. If you "accidentally" break something on purpose just to get a better model, it is insurance fraud, and it is HIGHLY illegal. This isn't the place to discuss such activities, and we had another thread like this locked a couple weeks ago.

Hang up and call back. Different reps will tell you different things.

But ya, don't break it on purpose... that's not cool.

Why on earth would I break it on purpose? I would have to go through so much hassle plus talking on the phone, and not to mention not having a laptop for 2 months!!! I actually meant by accident.

So you think if I call a different rep, they might give me a discount?

    thanks

They might, just don't mention you called before. You can keep trying, and see what the best price you can get is.

I had a similar issue with warranty pricing from dell. I ended up with a Squaretrade warranty. You should call them before you Manufacturer warranty expires and see if they will cover it.

There is no on-site plan, but I got 3 years extended warranty plus accidental for $280.00. They covered the full purchase price of the Laptop, that was like $1650. If it breaks, they give you Cash in your paypal, you send them the Laptop. You buy a replacement. Takes about 3-5 days, according to the interwebz.

I really don't have much time to choose, but I checked out their website and got a quote for $200 for 3 years! I just wonder what might be the downfall. for example, you probably can't call them for tech support or anything like that like you can call alienware. Without an alienware warranty each call to them is over $60! that can add up.

That's why you got us :p
My M15x has been out of warranty for three months now, I am being very careful with it :p It is not worth investing 800$ that's for sure. AW are good computers and they are built to last. Plus due to the chassis of the M15x you can pretty much swap anything if you get a hardware failure..!

$800 for warranty. I think warranty price warrants a new notebook.

IMHO you should buy any warranty ASAP, yes, Alienwares are good systems but the truth is that is not unusual to get a fried MOBO or GPU, and if you get a faulty MOBO without warranty is almost impossible to find one by yourself (although MAYBE this is gonna change in some months cuz of the m15x getting discontinued). I got my warranty extended for 3 years for $500 bucks aprox. but the first time I called dell they wanted me to charge $800 too, I just kept calling 'till a rep gave me the lowest price possible, so just keep calling.

If I were you I would extend the warranty for at least 1 year and then sell the m15x while it has warranty cover cuz as you know the m15x is getting discontinued and in a couple of years no one is going to want one, so as soon as you sell it the most money you'll get to buy a newer system, thats what I'm gonna do.

If you go with Squaretrade, be sure to get the accidental. It is another $200, call a rep and talk to them, first, tell them your Manufacturer warranty is about to expire, etc. Make sure you will be covered.

No you can't call for tech support, but if something goes wrong, they will schedule you for a local repair, by a local company (similar to dell). Check it out, they get great reviews from everywhere, that many people saying good things, must mean it is a good company!

I called like 5 or more times and other than the normal price some of them said it was actually $875 for 3 yr complete but they could give a $75 discount. can you beleive that! Aliened I hope you don't mind I pretended you were my friend telling some of them " my friend got this $500 deal and i want the same thing" but they still didn't listen! weird. I am really thinking I will get the squaretrade deal. that is $400 for 3 years and complete coverage. Besides, I really don't call dell anymore since I have been asking questions on NBR.

I paid $575 in January for a 4yr extension (5yr total) plus I got a $75 gift card. I called twice and talked to someone on the chat before I got that deal.

Not at all darth :D I made the same thing when I asked for some system upgrades for my WUR saying that I knew two guys (Sgt. and Gr8gorilla) that got some cuz of the bad service provided to them, and as with you, the dell guy basically told me (not literally) "you are lying I'm not going to do that" :( So keep calling 'till a dell rep gives up, I think that you have 15 days to extend your warranty after it expires in order for not to get a delay fee.

Wow I didn't know I had 15 days to extend it. It expired now, but I think right now I will just go with a squaretrade warranty. I called literally about 10 times and they all gave more than $800 dollars for what costs $400 at squaretrade.

Hey guys! I live in Malaysia and the warranty extension price offered by the dell executive who I called was around RM800 (USD 264) a year. Might be cheap for you guys, but it's almost a third of a person's salary here :/

Anyway, I wanted to look for a cheaper price than that so I went around hunting in lowyat forums and found this one guy who was willing to offer me one year warranty for ''so hereby i am offering RM 550 for In-Warranty-System and RM 690 for OOW system '' I'm guessing there are some people who can give you for a cheap price..Just gotta look around.

I'm not really sure if it'll work for international systems. Either ways I'll check with him and let y'all know..
