I see already a few people have been complaining with the audio cracking noise...

But has anyone noticed a high pitched noise when they use headphones on either of the 2 headphone jacks?

When I'm listening to music or playing a game it doesn't bother me, but anytime there is no noise coming through the headphones, i hear it.

It's actually quite unbearable and I have to remove my headphones.

( It kinda sounds like a teapot when it is ready and the water is boiling )(like the ones they showed in cartoons back in the day lol)

Does the sound go away when you turn off AlienFX?

I have this same problem, especially at high volume. However, it seems that if there is no audio playback for an extended period of time that the sound card goes into a low power state and it disappears. I know this is not a grounding issue because it happens on battery as well. Does anyone know if the "updated" motherboard that fixes the crackling issue fixes this?

Yea.. I agree with u TitanGod, I experienced that also.. it seems as if the sound card powers up... den after awhile of inactivity.. it powers down. a 'click' sound.

Had that problem + high frequency noise when AlienFX is on... got the mobo replaced 3 times and the sound card once... didnt fix it at all =( Worse.. the tech couldnt hear the high frequency noise + he said tt the click noise is normal ~_~

I gave up finding a solution after the 3rd mobo replacement coz on the 2nd replacement, the tech broke my 'touch sensor' panel and left pry marks on the touchpad panel. After much complains, they replace the 2 panels for me together wif another mobo. =(

Not getting this here. It really sounds like a shielding issue. Maybe the card or the headphones are picking up something else?

I use my iphone headset right now and i get that high pitched "whining" noise. But when i use my gaming headset its completely quiet. So i guess its just cheap crappy cables that might be the issue.

When I use my gaming headset (through USB) i don't hear it. It's only through the headphone jack.

Weather the volume is all the way up or all the way down I hear the whistling noise. I'm gonna call dell see what they say, but I would only accept a replacement mobo only if they let me replace it my self. I had my video card replaced once and the guy didn't look like he knew what he was doing so I told him to let me do it.

I can sometimes hear it, but it's barely noticeable. This is through the headphone jack.

Haha, did he let you? I sometimes wonder where they find such bad "techs." I was A+ certified at 14 and I'm working on my CCNA in my spare time. I feel like so many technicians today stumbled into their jobs by chance.

I'm getting this as well. I never really noticed it before but if I just let the M15X idle without touching it and put on some headphones or earbuds I can hear a humming, it's not that high pitched though but it is noticeable.

I'm guessing the pitch of it varies between M15x's from what I'm reading here.

It just bothers me that I have to remove my headphones during games or when I'm switching between music. :(

(maybe I just have sensitive ears lol)

    try different sound drivers.
USB headsets bypass the soundcard altogether since the digital->analogue conversion is done by a chip in the headset.

I just got my m15x and I am having these sound issues too, I can hear it when I have nothing plugged into my headphone jack then when I plug my headphones in I hear it in both jacks. I turn off Alien FX and it stops. Is there some kind of update for Alien FX to fix this or any kind of fix for this?
    Thanks.
