I have been getting a lot of crashes and freezes a lot lately while playing game and one of my friend told me its a symptom of a dying video card. I currently have the nvidia 260m in my m15x so i decided to go with the ati 5870m for my upgrade. But i read on this forum that if i get that card then i have to flash the vbios back to the orginal version or watever. I never flash the bios or vbios before in my life and im affraid ill mess up. I found this one on ebay
NEW Alienware m15x m17x videocard C8245 1GB ATI 5870 !! | eBay would that one work with my m15x? or does any1 here have a 5870m laying around thats already to go that want to sell to me so i can jus plug it in my laptop and be done. thanx

It seems that there have been some hardware revisions when it comes to the 5870m, with some of those cards, the fan control in the M15x doesn't work anymore and you need to control it manually.

I have a 5850m laying around which I don't need anymore, it's almost new and has only been in the system for a few weeks. It performs like a champ and can easily be overclocked to 5870m levels and higher. PM me if interested.

I agree. 5850>5870 just from user experience and comments on this site. The 260m uses 75w where the 5850 uses I believe 40w-60w thus reducing throttling to pretty much zero. Logically this was my reasoning for picking a 5850 and it also runs any game on decent levels.

The Dell 5850M is a great card, almost perfect for the M15x. One of my all-time favorite cards.

Sorry, I always forget that you need 5 posts for PM...
Sorry, someone already contacted me about the card, but in case he won't buy it I'll let you know. I should know this by tomorrow.
