I just bought 3D Mark Vantage and ran a benchmark. Do these scores look like my system is what it should be? I had my GPU cranked up a bit.

Looks fine for the GPU but looks like the CPU is running slow. Run throttlestop and make sure that the first 2 check boxes are marked. You don't have to have the CPU overclocked, throttlestop also helps with making sure your CPU runs the way it should. For your CPU TPL settings should be 62/62 and the TRL should be 18/18/24/25 at default.

Looks like a strong o/c on the GPU, but the CPU score is way below expectation. Ought to be 14,500+/- with a stock 940xm.

You might raise them to 70/62 to pick up a little headroom, but it shouldn't be necessary. You don't have EIST or Turboboost disabled to you?

Can, but shouldn't matter. 70/62 (or even 62/62) should provide all the power needed at 25-24-18-18. This is very peculiar. I don't know what else could be causing the under-performance. Need to think a little.

    Helluva nice rig.

Did you check out the screenshot? Maybe you can see something abnormal there.

Well I took the Pitstop Overdrive test after setting my TPL to 75/62 and my TRL to 24 across the board. My cpu stats went from 51000 at stock settings to over 63000. My GPU is stock at 625?1000

To get the full benefit of 24-24-24-24 requires about 82W, so TDP/TDC (TPL in TS) needs to be set around 85/72. If you have wPrime v1.55, run the 32M test using 8 threads with those settings to isolate CPU performance. Ought to get around 8 seconds +/- .1 sec.

My 920xm is noticeably sluggish today as well. Wonder if some update has screwed up performance.

Did you by any chance install an update for Broadcom bus contoller and ports and a security update for Microsoft Visual C++Redistributable Package 2010?

Had an update for the Broadcom controller, but that was on the 18th. Had a Silverlight update on the 21st. I did have security updates for 2005 and 2008 Visual C++ Redistributables, also on the 18th, but not 2010 that I can identify. Need to test a little further before I start removing updates.

How big of a performance hit are we talking about? I I'm up to date and my 920xm seems alright...

Running wPrime v1.55 32M at 24x across the board @85W/72A ordinarily takes 7.98-8.04 seconds, regular as rain, the range based mostly on what's running in the background. Today, right now, it took 9.28 seconds, using 83.91W of power (per HWiNFO32). Significant slacking off. Throttlestop shows 24x on all threads throughout the run, no throttling reflected in TS. Strange.

All is well. Last run was at 7.897 seconds (after reboot, pretty clean). Turned out my problem was the AlienGuise/Breed theme. Had noticed some slowdown in everyday use, but not dramatic. But when the CPU was isolated, there it was, revealed for the CPU cycle thief that it is. Still like it and will use it, but when performance is needed, it has to go. Also removed Silverlight (first). Minimal improvement.

Unfortunately, this doesn't help usmc362 much. Still, no theory there.
