    Hello again fellow m15x owners.
I am having trouble with my 5850 and I am hoping someone can help.
I am getting the usual 300/400 clock speeds like powerplay is enabled on my m15x with radeon 5850. Only problem is, its not powerplay. I am thinking corrupt files/reg entries.
What happened is I was attempting to overclock with msi afterburner. A couple days ago I had it running nicely at 700/1000. today I decided to push it further. I loaded MSI afterburner, hit apply at 720/1020 and ever since then it wont run above 300/400.
I was running catalyst 12.6. I uninstalled all AMD software, deleted all amd/ati folders on the computer, and reinstalled catalyst 12.8 and it is still running at 300/400 clocks.
Please help me out. I am not getting corrupt images so the card isnt toast. It just seems to be stuck in powerplay.
    Anyone with any ideas HELP!!
    Thanks in advance!

Ok so i tried uninstalling AMD drivers. *Reboot* Running CCleaner and DriverFusion (used to be driver sweeper) in safe mode and regular. *reboot* then reinstalled 12.8 drivers with no luck. Please someone help me out. is there a program that lets me read the Pstates of the VBIOS to see if maybe the Vbios is corrupt?

Doesnt seem to be CPU related. tried the max performance power settings in windows and alienware software and still same issue.

i had this happen a couple of times with my old 5850m, i would toggle stealth mode on and then off, that sometimes worked other times i would just force the clocks via sapphire trixx

you could also try a power drain

if you want to look at the vbios you can use rbe (radeon bios editior)

Do you have the laptop set in High Performance mode (I believe you right click on your battery indicator on the task bar at the bottom of the screen to set how you want the performance). In CCC, you can also set High Performance settings in the Power mode (I believe, anyhow). Also, make sure Stealth mode isn't engaged, like Mexic00ls mentioned.

Other thoughts: Be sure your vents and fans are nice and clean. Make sure you use a registry cleaner when you update your video card drivers.

i have tried everything you all mentioned... and the most frustrating ridiculous thing happened. I was just about to give up on it when i figured hey... what if I pull the power while running 3dmark and see if the clocks drop. i pulled the power and they stayed the same 300/400. Then when I plugged it back in all of a sudden it went back up to my 720/1020 overclock and started running smooth again!!! All of this for a power pull... I still have flashbacks of my nightmares that evening... Thanks for your help and I hope this helps someone else in the future!
