Hey all just wanted to let everyone know despite what i see people being told the 980m 8gb Gsync version DOES work inside of the m15x. The only thing I did was change the active lfp setting in the bios to edp and it worked plug and play. I did have to modify the inf file but that was not too hard.

https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/28345363? Firestrike score. Even though my Cpu was clocked at 28x28x28x27 stable at a low tdp and tdc I needed to increase it for the clocks to hold across all 4 cores. The max I've been able to get the gpu temp is 81 with firestrike looping for 15 minutes.

OpenGL score in CB tells almost nothing bout real graphics performance ;)

I dont have any games to test properly atm, just showing more that it will definitely work. In the process of modding vbios to keep this thing cool

Firestrike is a reasonable benchmark, though there are plenty of others. It is nice to see another example of 980m running in this machine. However, as others have noted, heat and power are the principal issues for the 980m with 920/940 processors near the limit. We all wish you well - perhaps you will find a solution that has been missed.
    Keep us informed.

Max gpu temp was 65 degrees with the laptop resting on a textbook. I removed the pin on the adapter and it doubled my score so it is definitely needed. I don't have the double adapter but according to hwinfo the card never drew more than 87 watts

If I overclock my memory I can get it to 3000 so far and my graphics score goes to 9k. My core clock seems stuck around 949 though boosting to 1040 ish sometimes.

Playing arma 3 Gpu sits at 1231 core and 3060 mem @ 53 degrees

    EDIT
Cranked up the settings to all maxed with 2xaa no vsync and the temps got up to 71-72 but thats not very bad. Frames were in the 40s

One thing I noticed when installing the card was that with the stock screw the heatsink would not make proper contact with the card. I removed the front two screws and replaced them with ones that allowed the heatsink to make contact. Next I tucked a thermal pad underneath the metal bracket that goes over the heatsink where the fan screws in. This makes the back of the heatsink make contact with the rest of the gpu better.

https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/28341880? The highest score I was able to get today. This was +79 on the core and +456 on the mem. The cpu was clocked at 28x28x28x27 60tdp 62 tdc. Increasing the tdc/tdp values past that didn't allow me to clock higher it just made my temps sky rocket. The gpu never went over 66 degrees according to hwinfo during all the tests (I ran about 12) so temps are not a problem.

You're power throttling badly. A properly working, stock 980M scores about 10K in FS Graphics.

Thats definitely the case. It never reaches full core clock in FS but in games it does.

The amount of throttle would depend on whether the games you play are more or less power intensive than FS, and any FPS limiters or VSync in place.

I don't think stock 980m's score that high either. Everyone I can find thats scoring that high is overclocked. Most tend to score around 9200-9600 so it really isn't that bad.

That's because stock vBIOS 980M power throttles below 1126MHz as well. On my Prema vBIOS 980M, I was getting 10K with no overclocking.

It would be incompatible with your card as that was a BGA 980M 4GB, and I've not had system for quite some time.

nobody is going to send you his files, as him yourself if you'd like to use them. This is what chased him away from making public releases and he took down all of his work.

I ended up making my own, I'll probably chuck it up here later. Anything above a graphics score of 8400 gets bottlnecked by the cpu unless you can get it over x27-x28.

    Hi True Debreuil

could you help or teach me how to modify the .INF i spent 2 days and follow all the intractionstill failed.

i trried to install GTX 980M non Gsynch

    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&SUBSYS_02A21028&REV_A1
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&SUBSYS_02A21028
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&CC_030000
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&CC_0300

this is my nvdmi.inf from default nvidiagtx 980m
    very intrested saw your result.

    thanks bro

1st dl the driver you want to modify, right click on it and extract the contents to a folder. Open up the NVDMI search "13d7" And edit all lines to match your device - Eg "%NVIDIA_DEV.13D7.05AB.1028% = Section154, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&SUBSYS_05AB1028 " get changed to
%NVIDIA_DEV.13D7.02A2.1028% = Section154, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&SUBSYS_02A21028 . Note how I changed the 05AB to 02A2 which is your device (m15x). The 1028 means that the laptop is a dell machine. the 13d7 stands for your graphics card ID
You have to do this in the corresponding operating system section - this part i did for the latest windows 10.
Next you have to modify the string section - same idea "NVIDIA_DEV.13D7.05AB.1028 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M" I take a string like this one that is there and modify it to "NVIDIA_DEV.13D7.02A2.1028 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M". Paste the file back in where you found it.

After you have done this turn of driver signature enforcement - for me on windows 10 I must search advanced startup options then restart my pc and find it in the menu. The driver should then correctly install.

    hi True Debreuil

    thanks for helping me..
I have followed all the ways that you have explained. and when installing everything was successful but still the same when I did the benchmark or playing the game suddenly the screen turned black, the game but the road behind. after control alt del, window 10 issues a message "application has been blocked from accessing graphic hardware"

do you think this is because of nvidia drivers or VBIOS because I have upgraded to VBIOS MOD sv7.

Try download DDU (display driver uninstaller) and uninstall all drivers then reinstall them. Tbh I would recommend using the stock VBIOS - or making your own as most of these custom VBIOS draw far too much power for the m15x

    Hi Bro

overnight Danishblunt helped me fix it, and the results were successful. based on the information from him the problem came from the VBIOS ( svl7) that I used because this vbios gave too much power, after we decided to return it to the VBIOS stock everything returned to normal. thank you very much for this person because he want to take the time to remote my pc .

for the record the error is :
"application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware"
