    Hi friends!

As we know, MS will give a free upgrade from Windows 7 and 8.1 to the new Windows 10 in the next week.

Did you guys already tested the W10 betas on m15x? Command Center works well on it?

    Thx!

I tested Win 10 and it more or a less works. Things like screen brightness using F4 or F5 and Fn didn't work at all (same as on Win 8?)
Think the FX keyboard lighting works ok but it can take awhile to update to a new theme.

I'm not in any rush to update. Will probably update the day before it stops being free.

Did you try the OSD for Windows 7/8?

I did indeed but it only partially works. This was on a preview build though so lets hope it has better compatibility on release....which is today!

Im with Windows 10, EVERYTHING working fine, including the Function keys (sound, screen brightness, etc).

I did an upgrade for the old original Win 7 that comes with M15X to Win 10.

No idea how you got brightness to work with Fn. What graphics card do you have?

Can't get either Fn keys or soft touch keys (such as stealth mode, command centre and volume) to work at all. What driver is it that these actually use?

My Fn keys and soft touch keys also work in Windows 10 flawlessly. If I remember correctly, I only had to download the Alienware OSD Application to get them functioning correctly.

All works except for command centre screams the following if you try and use it, I know you can change keyboard colours, OSD display works and the multimedia strip works as well. If anyone has a solution I would appreciate it but wow it is alot faster than 7

Tried reinstalling command centre and OSD but no joy. Wonder if its an AMD issue. Also got a massive issue where screen won't turn back on after switching off through inactivity. Sigh

I have AMD 7970m as well. Upgraded to Win 10 last night. I had the same issue with FN key brightness. Here's the fix:

    1. They have a driver update for win 10. Install it.
    2. For the FN key to adjust brightness, you have to fix it manually via regedit. Search regedit and open it. Go to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Controlset001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0000 (this could be 0001 as well, depending on your computer). Select KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface2. Put the value to 0 and restart. It should fix it.

As for the alienwarefx, that error showed up the first time I opened it. It went away on my second time, so restart your computer and check it out. Everything works as before.

Hey. I turn the computer off all the time I never leave it on and that same error user access control thing always pops up. Twice before it lets me in and once when I close saving settings. :-/ I don't get it.

I know this is an old post, but I thought I would share a solution in case anybody happens to come across this problem in the future and needs to fix it. In order to get the Command Center to work as it did in Windows 7 (command center just starts, no error windows pop up), the program needs to install under the administrator. I do not mean the program needs to install using the "run as administrator" command. What I mean is that a person must first activate the administrator account and then install the Command Center while logged into the Administrator account.

In order to activate the administrator account, follow the next steps:

1)Right Click on the start menu and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2)Type in net user administrator /active:yes
    3) log into the administrator account from the start menu.
    4)install Command Center
5)log out of the administrator account
    6)log into another account
    7)deactivate the administrator account
a)right click on the start menu and select Command Prompt (Admin)
b)Type in net user administrator /active:no

Well, I started the upgrade yesterday and then I had to leave for a date when it was at 98%. (No kidding.)

I got back home today and all I had to do was verify a few things and I that was it. I didn't have to reinstall any programs or apps.

The only thing I issue I have found so far is that I can't use Throttle Stop 6.00 to overclock my 940XM and run Firestrike. It causes the benchmark to exit before it finishes. I will say that Win 10 handles that quite well.

So I have been playing MechWarrior Online off and on all day. Since I haven't spent much time playing with game setting with this 8970M it's been interesting to say the least. For the most part I run MWO on Low settings at 1080p.

I can't use ThrottleStop for any long time OC of 920xm either on Win10 instead of Win7. Notebook randomly shutdowns after random period of time and doesn't matter if there was any CPU load on not.
Looks like Win10 might be less stable in terms of software CPU overclocking.

    Good evening, everyone.

I installed Windows 10 on my M15x (specs in signature). Everything is working fine accept for my 5850M. I've installed the old Windows 7 driver from the Dell website (forced it through the device manager). I've installed the newest one off of AMD's website. They all do the same thing. Clocks are stuck at 300/400, and GPU-Z reports that as "100%" usage. 3DMark11 score is roughly half of what it was in Windows 7 running normal clocks of 625/1000.

In an essence, somewhere, somehow, the card is only seen as having max clocks of 300/400. I don't know if the OS is doing this, or why it would be. I've already told the OS to use maximum performance settings, and also set the card to run at maximum performance in its control panel.

Worst case scenario is that I revert back to Windows 7, but I'm hoping that someone here knows what is going on, and possibly knows a fix. It seems like many of you have upgraded to much nicer GPUs.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Sorry you had issues and no one could help. You are most likely the first on this forum to try that exact hardware combo and Win 10.

Oh, it's no sweat brother. Sometimes these issues are a simple matter of changing a "1" to a "0" in the registry or a hex editor. Instead of reinventing the wheel, so to say, I wanted to ask you guys.

    Thank you for the reply.

I know your post is a little old but there is a new AMD driver called "legacy" which works on the 5850m. I haven't tested it but I would assume it works on Win10. I will do an upgrade over the weekend and let you know. However, I upgraded to 7970m. My m15x still rocks!

Hi guys for anyone following this thread I am happy to say I have windows 10 working with all drivers. The hardest one was the Accelerometer. The one made for the M15X is not compatible with windows 10. I downloaded an updated driver called STMicroelectronics 3-Axis from the dell website and worked like a charm. I have the touch bar working with the OSD drivers, AlienFX, etc. The brightness control is working after following the tip on this thread. The only thing that hasn't popped up is Alien Sense. I have not tried playing around with it yet, but not a deal breaker for me.
