I bought my crucial ram (in sig) about 2-ish months ago. All was well until about a week or two ago I started to notice that when I'm browsing and such the ram temps reach between 50-52c and when gaming can get as high as 59c which seems ridiculously high (idle around 41-42c). I don't know what could be wrong, I always use my laptop on a flat surface or a flat lap surface thingy when I'm in bed.

Another question I had which doesn't relate to the title, but when I open up task manager I see 2 instances of conhost.exe, is that normal? If not, then what can I do?

What program are you using to monitor temps? To my knowledge, there isn't a sensor for system memory.

I use hwmonitor. I think it is doing a fairly accurate job because when I notice a bit of sluggish performance I notice my ram temps are higher than my cpu temps and a few degrees shy of my gpu temps. I check the bottom of my laptop near the area where the nameplate is and its quite hot (obviously the metal nameplate will be hot, but the area around it to the front where the touchpad is also quite hot).

Could you post a screen? I just fired up HWM, and I'm not seeing those temps.

My laptop has been on for about 3-4 hours, and been on idle for the past 45-60 minutes. These are the same temps after turning my computer on for 30ish minutes (give or take 2-3c).

EDIT**: within the 3-4 hours it was on i played frozen throne for about a half hour, the rest of the time either browsing the internet or laptop left on idle.

The conhost.exe process sitting allows Windows 7 to fix both of the problems in previous versions of Windows—not only do the scrollbars draw correctly, but you can actually drag and drop a file from Explorer straight into the command prompt:

So its safe to say conhost.exe isnt a necessary program, but how do i stop it from running? Do i just go to services and set it to manual?

Any ideas on the ram temp?

    After reading this article:
What is conhost.exe and Why Is It Running? - How-To Geek
It would seem that removing the program could do more damage than leaving it alone.
Which still makes me wonder why I do not have it running, BUT do have csrss.exe running. Suggestions accepted.

Now, with the limited info I have found, the article does mention virus scanning too. the article implies that conhost has been used as a virus host program.

    Again, Thx t_man. got a rep 4u.

From what I can understand is that you don't need it running (not 100% confident), but I wasn't planning on removing it from my system just setting its startup properties to manual as oppose to automatic considering it only seems to fix the cmd prompt scroll bar/theme style + drag/drop.

As for you post hub1100 the conhost runs under the csrss.exe process (process tree). So that's why I'm assuming it is ok to disable it because I don't care for the 2 fixes to the cmd prompt as I don't use drag/drop nor do I care for the scrollbar style. The rest is handled by the csrss.exe process (which is important).
