    hi guys,

I really miss having linux installed on my computer. I am using virtualbox in windows to get my linux fix ATM, but this is just not the same. I want to install some flavor of linux (probably ubuntu) but from what I am reading there are random x-server crashes when doing so. Using the live CD is not the same as the 11.04 live CD will not load unity without installing the nvidia driver and after you install the driver a restart is required. Here are some threads that mention the issue.

nvidia driver very unstable on gtx260m - nV News Forums

Any of you that are dual booting and run primarily in linux please shoot me some feedback on this. Particularly those that are running ubuntu.

Try grabbing an alternate kubuntu 10.4 installation iso from their web site.
Worked a treat for me - ad trouble with the original ubuntu 11.4. 10.4 is and older version but you can always upgrade it once it's installed correctly. I'm sure I don't need to give you the installation particulars since you've used linux before, and the installation is really straightforward, but if you have questions I'll be happy to help.

Not a fan of KDE. 10.04.3 is the current version of the LTS release, but if I am not mistaken, that does not change the video driver being used for the nvidia card, which would mean that the problem should exist on 10.04.3 as well. I actually want to use unity, which is why I want to run 11.04. anyone else have any feedback?
