Well right now the M15x doesn't really have good resale value, but you might be able to do ok on ebay. I think the new 7xxxm ati cards were supposed to come out soon so i would wait for that. The 940xm runs at 2.1 ghz and 2960xm is at 2.7 ghz which i think is a good jump, but i dont know about oc possiblities on the 2960xm or the 2920xm i think widezu has experience with the chips. Of course the 2nd gen supports integrated graphic and ddr3 1600 speeds. So overall it should proof to be a good leap in my opinion. But god is it expensive, i wanted to get a m18x too but im seriously considering getting an aurora desktop instead

I see my name mentioned :) Well it is up to you. I've owned the M15x with a 920XM and a 6990m. Was a champ. Loved it. My 920XM hit around 3.46Ghz when OC'd which was pretty good. Mexic00ls is right, the 2960XM is a jump but he's comparing base clocks: 2.1 vs 2.7. The i7 XM's are all about the turbos. My 2920XM does 4.4GHz, rakes in similar bench scores as a 990X on stock :D. My point is the leap is huge. However if you can, I'd hold until the next Alienware refresh. AMD have just release SOME of their new GPUs (rebadges) with high end ones coming later.

Bottom line, yes performance increase will be massive but don't pull the trigger just yet if you can wait till after CES 2012.

You're close to me, I'd possibly be interested in the 6970m. Is it Dell or Clevo?

Wait for a refresh, the nvidia gt 600m series are out already, soon will come the gtx(m) series. Plus Ivy bridge processors as well.

My bro and I try and out do each other with TV's, PC's, phones etc. He took delivery of an M18x maxed out spec last week and I was the first person he casually displayed it to :( . Made me itch a little in replacing my M15x, but I think I'll wait for the next gens to come out so I can teach him a lesson.
