All you would need is the gpu, and some thermal paste such as mx4

This right here. Yogesh, don't confuse the GDDR3 version with the Alienware/Dell version that is GDDR5 and much faster. Like khetik said, the 5850m not only overclocks like a monster but also consumes less power than the 460M/560M.

You can reuse the thermal pads from your 460M. All you would need is a decent thermal compound for the GPU. Any of the various decent compounds would do.

thanks... but here i have solved my problem a bit... i kept throttling multiplier to 14 and getting good results but its completely unnecessary bcoz totally i am getting just 1.8ghz and i am actually underclocking the cpu. i can get same results with 740qm also... so changing seems to be a better option..

also the core clock speed of 5850 is 625 mhz whereas 460m is 13xx mhz and also memory bandwidth of 460m is 192 bit and 5850m is just 128 bit, open gl support is 3.2 but 460m has support upto 4.. does this causes any affect??

Well, to put it in perspective, at stock (no overclocks), running on my M15x 940XM + 5850M, Vantage GPU = 7700 to give you a baseline of comparison to your 460m.

That card you linked is the right one you want.

Once you get it, before you remove your 460m, make sure to set your M15x to boot CD first then HD just in case you need to update your Vbios.

I've upgraded numerous M15x's, and at least twice while upgrading the 260/460 cards to 5850m's, the system had a white screen and/or flickering along with dismal
(~3325) Vantage scores. Another went to a total blank screen, but the system was clearly booting up with no display. A quick Vbios update to Vbios A02 from Dell's website
    fixed the problem both times.

so if i buy 5850m, do i need to change anything like fans, sinks any fitting etc?? or just buy and fit and run? (1st boot device as my cd.)

also is there any better card under 65watt that gives better performance?

For that card all you need is some thermal paste when you swap gpu's. It is basically plug n play.

I got my 5850 and installed everything needed..

    1. i overclocked with msi after burner.. 725mhz and 1100mhz (throttle stop is not open).. graphics was really smooth but only problem is that game is not rendering. it takes 5-8 seconds to render
    2. with same over clock enabled throttle stop and it automatically underclocks the fps to 15-20 sometimes giving a rough play.

so now what i have to do.... ????
