so im thinking. later this year i think im gonna go for one or the other. my 1 yr warranty expires near the end of this year and im thinking about renewing it, but after looking into the 6970m, i would really like that to make my machine a beast. any opinions?

I would say the warranty. Warranty is very important as electronics tend to break when they get old.

Your 5850m should be enough for 80-90% of all the modern games as your screen is only 900p.

I think you're ok without warranty. There are honestly a lot of spare M15x parts out there.

You can upgrade your laptop and still have the warranty. Don't tell Dell that you have upgraded it and if anything happens mount back your original components and call them as normal.

Just make sure you keep your original components until the warranty expires just in case something happens.

Do both. Get the extra warranty, then install the 6970m and if you have any problems just remove the 6970 and put in your original gpu and get everything for free.
