... and now that I've restarted I'm having some weird occurences.

For one, most of my diagnostics applications, for example CPU-Z are telling me that I only have 3 Cores and 3 threads, when in fact I should have 4. (Unless it's not counting the original Core/Thread(?)(!).

That and some of my bottom right hand windows taskbars have been interestingly changed. (vanished).

    Either way I'm sufficiently confused.

What's included in this "routine maintance"?

Did you go to the device manager and checked how many entries you have under processors? (should be 8)

Just cleaning the fans and dust accumulation on heatsinks, nothing note-worthy. Truth be told, I wanted to get the processor fan cleaned, but I couldn't get the heatsink off that one (still some stuff to learn). So I just ended up cleaning the vents (which had some dust on/in them anyway).

    Device Manager only shows

    Intel(R) Core (TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60
    Intel(R) Core (TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60
    Intel(R) Core (TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60

    stated like that, weirdly.

Ok, go to the device manager, right click on "processors" and click "scan for hardware changes"

Edit: You may need to reboot afterwards, can't remember.

I'm unsure what happened, but I managed to fix it with a scheduled System Restore point. Device Manager is back to 8 720QM's :).

It really was quite odd, the date reverted back to 2009 (when I obtained this laptop). a bunch of gadgets were behaving strangely, (a few vanished >.<!) Though, to be fair they may have been temporary windows files as I did install a windows update.
