    hey guys.

im contemplating picking up an m15x second hand to see if i wish to start learning more about computer moding/upgrading with it...

was wondering, what kind of things should i check for if i go in person to see the item?

any sorts of tests that i should run that could be indicative of certain flaws / underlying problems?

also, have people generally been able to get extensions on expired warranties for their machines?

ive been offered one on my expired m11x, but dunno if Dell would offer it for the m15x since they wouldnt have anything to replace it with...

I just renewed my expired warranty on my m17x r2 in March. It had been out of warranty for over a year, since before I bought it from the previous owner. It cost like $330, but IMHO it was worth it. Every time I speak with Dell, they always ask me if I'd be interested in renewing my wife's warranty on her r3, which is also expired. I would think they would extend yours as well, but I've been wrong before lol. Good luck :)

yep, not surprising imo cos m17x still in production. just wondering whether it would be a flat out no.

If you plan to upgrade (as I have suggested) then warranty wouldn't cover those components anyway. Dell are most likely to say 'Why have you put this gfx card in an M15x...are you mad???'

Check the screen for dead pixels. Most noticeable with a white background and move your head side to side slightly. Check PSU works probably and battery has some charge left in it.
Maybe ask to run some benchmarks like 3dmark 11 if they have it. Alternatively just ask to see a game in action. At that point check the fans are working properly.
Individual components aren't so essential if you plan to upgrade most of them....

These are all great suggestions. Running the PSA will also help.
