I just ran the upgrade assistant on my Alienware M15x and it said I couldn't run secure boot due to UEFI compatibility problem. I am trying to track down if the m15x can do UEFI or not?

    Thanks

The most recent bios is A09, and I am90% sure it cannot do UEFI. However, It can run Windows 8. I had a fairly rocky course for my upgrade - partly due to an issue with my SSD. See the Win 8 thread in the general Alienware forum. A number of others have managed to get Win 8 running. A couple of suggestions: Remove (don't just disable ) your antivirus software. If it turns on after the upgrade, it can cause WIn 8 to hang. It (almost) goes without saying that you should back up your disk.

If you go ahead, let us know how you make out.

The m15x does not have UEFI but will work fine with Windows 8.

Thanks for the info! To those who have done the upgrade, what do you think of Windows 8 on the notebook vs. Win 7?

In my opinion, I prefer 8 over 7. I still have 7 on my desktop but that will change soon. I think 8 is overall better than 7 and once you get used to the start menu you really see how much better it is.

This is completely accurate. It does not support UEFI boot mode but it does work.
