I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan and we only have wired internet. I'm trying to set up a ad hoc so I can get my ipod online with the shared internet connection. Every time I enter a network name and security key and click next it says "Windows could not set up (network name)". I made sure the wireless is on and reinstalled the driver for the wireless card. The only thing I have not done is set up a ad hoc on another computer and see if I can log on to it.

    Any thoughts?

update: Wireless does not see any networks I try and login to. As far as I can tell the touch button does nothing and my wireless card don't work.

I have the intel 5300 half card.

OK, so assume the card is enabled and visible in device manager?

Also, what about switching it on and off with the touch buttons above the function keys?

I checked when i did the drivers and the card is enabled and visible in device manager.

I also tried the touch buttons on a few different places and as far as i can tell the wifi one does nothing. but it does come up on the screen and light and dim.

I'm in Afghanistan and the closest thing I can get to a wifi network is a shared internet connection from another laptop (ad hoc).

ive noticed some devices do not detect ad-hoc,
the one that got me was the PS3.
laptops, i think should not be a problem.

another way of doing it is using a network cable.
