so, been looking into this a little bit

am I right In saying the m15x, or my build anyway, isn't able to connect wirelessly to my tv?

it doesn't have wifi-direct, or something like that?

bearing that in mind..would I need to buy a miracast dongle?

As far as I'm aware it does not have miracast compatibility. If you have win 8.1 or 10 installed you can Run> dxdiag> save all information> open file and do a search for miracast, if its not there or says not supported, miracast and WiDi is not supported.

Let us know what you find.

What's specified above will help you to determmine if an extra device could help. Internally, there's no device to do that.

By using Intel WiDi or Miracast dongle, if your notebook supports it.

I did this with a Raspberry Pi by installing the 'RasPlex' OS on it. You'll first need to install Plex media server on your Windows machine and then RasPlex on the Rasberry Pi. Once done, connect both the Pi and Windows machine to the same network. You can now stream films and audio to your TV wirelessly and the Pi can be hidden out of sight. Apparently you can also stream from iOS (Airplay also works but only for audio) and Android but I haven't tried this... Yet.

Means buying another device but it's not so expensive and it's the only option that comes to mind. It's a versatile piece of kit - I have one Pi attached to my television as a media centre and it's done solid work for 2 years now.

Widi will not work on the M15X AFAIK. I am pretty sure the computer needs to have Intel Integrated graphics for Widi to work. I also think that support for Widi started with the Sandy Bridge processors.

Miracast dongles are designed for televisions that don't have native Miracast support. I think they operate as receivers, not transmitters.

The only thing I can think of is looking for a wireless video transmitter. Search for WHDI. These things are not cheap, and not sure how well they work either. You'll also need a Display Port to HDMI adapter.
