Do you know if they will allow us Euros to personalize the nameplate anytime soon ?
-
Lol? what do you mean? It doesnt let you? Or do you mean in another language?
-
Mudkip is a pokemon.
-
Just placed my order, after selling the m15x =)
Should arrive July 5th. -
Yeah there isn't the option to have the personalized nameplate like on the other alienware computers. Last thing that hold me from ordering. I know it is silly but I want it.
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
Apparently it is just an error someone mentioned that a dell rep said the options for custom name plates should be available later today.
-
Really? Are you on the Dell U.S site? It has the option there to personalize the name plate after you choose all the components and click continue customizing.
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
I go to the dell canada site, its the same problem there, no customization option but the option was there yesterday morning, it also disappeared from the US dell site too as someone was saying, but he spoke to a rep and they said its an error that should be fixed later today.
-
I have a nameplate theory...
In my confirmation email is says this:
-- Standard Nameplate Trigger --
-- Standard Nameplate (Alienware M17x)
-- [330-5063]
I'm thinking that they have pre-engraved nameplate with "Alienware M17x" on them.
That's what I would have put anyway (for re-sale purposes). -
It's not available on the Euro website
-
Well maybe it is only generic non personalized..
-
It was available in German site (Dell) today morning 2.45 or so when I checked. Dont know the current status.
-
That's what I meant. But I wouldn't put my name in there anyway, so I guess it doesn't matter for me
-
The generic nameplate says "M17x" in aliencaret.
-
On the plus side you'll probably get the free Win 7 upgrade cert. by then.
-
From what I understand UK starts out with Q9000 though. That itself is a $200 upgrade from the U.S. base config. -
So you confirm that it will not be possible to personalize it and that I should go for the generic one ?
-
well for comparison to buy the same rig i have now as an m17 is around £1700 same rig with the 280 is around £3500
not worth it simple as that -
IMO, you should wait and see. Unless you can put your name in there, they should not call it "Personalized" name plate. As others have pointed out, it can be an error with the site which will be fixed soon.
-
I would think most people would just take the standard M17x nameplate vs something customised . If you decide to sell your machine down the road it would be better if the machine didnt say "John's Super Laptop" on the bottom , unless of course the guy your selling it to happens to be named John also .
-
Yeah I told them to put Alienware M17x on mine. I didn't know M17x would be the standard otherwise I would have told them to leave it alone.
-
For those ordering through EPP are you skipping the complete care coverage?
-
Yes.
I always add that when I extend my warranty after the first year. Although, I have done that with every DELL laptop I bought
-
ATM i am really torn by either T9600 or the QX9300 not gonna say money is not an issue but who doesnt want to save and try to get the best they can for at the time and I know alot of you are gonna say get the low CPU and by the QX of ebay but I dont plan to upgrade it since i plan to just keep the warrenty for 1 yr and renew it every year. I Play many new games and old games WoW is the main game I really play at the moment but Starcraft 2 may be in the future and that seems like a heavy RTS game... anyway my current choice, also i kind of notice my Inspiron 1720 to be getting slow and freezing, but that may be due to needing to reformat the drive but its 2.2ghz 2gb ram and 8800 gt paid 2k when it first came out
T9600 or Qx9300
SLI 280s
1900x1200 (1200p) uxga
4gb ddr3 1066 if with T9600/4gb ddr1333 if with QX9300
Debating on BR drive doubt it burns BR-rs vs DVD drive (but I do love my BR movies)
500gb HD but also debating 1tb (more so for work Im a DJ)
1yr warrenty with complete care (and will add+ yr/yrs when the time comes to safe initial $$) -
How much money is the Q on the configurator?
I saw some on fleabay for $399 -
for the T9600 its 725 less but you dont get warrenty on fleabay if i go that route on the buy it on ebay route, that and I never done a Lappy CPU upgrade, but I do my own desktop builds.
-
If you do your own desktop stuff, then you shouldn't have a problem on a big laptop such as the M17x.
Yeah, the ebay rout is more risky, but CPU's have a VERY low failure rate. Also, most sellers will let you test it out to make sure it isn't DOA. -
yea but it really comes down to I just like the whole laptop to be under one warranty and be covered like i said ive had my ispiron for 2 years now so will the T9600 last out a QX9300 in those 2 years?
-
Yeah save the money and go the Fleabay route then use that extra cash to either apply towards the extended warranty you plan on getting anyway or save it towards your next laptop
. Like Sleey0 said putting in a CPU is very easy and more so if you have done any desktop builds on your own. You wont be voiding your warranty when you do it , but the Qx9300 wont be covered since you put it in , but again CPUs rarely ever go bad so its not even an issue you need to worry yourself over.
-
Now since 50 bucks is just 50 bucks might as well get the 1333 drr3 if i really end up getting the QX correct, i think its the wise choice but would like to get your guys take, and now either BR drive or standard DVD drive. my desktop already has a BR Burner by LG and I do own a ps3 and BR media is getting cheaper and cheaper would it be wise to get the BR drive? i guess what i should really put is do i watch alot of movie on my laptop...? only sometimes -
Also ask yourself does BR look that much better than Hi-Def? To me honestly I don't notice a difference. But maybe that is just me.
-
uh? isnt BR hi def lol, i notice the difference between BR and DVD -
Could always halve the difference and ebay a new OEM QX9300 that's covered under Intel's warranty.
QX9300 OEM
Save $200 instead of $500. -
I mean HD DVD lol...
-
BR and HD DVD same thing IMO just that BR beat HD DVD so yea like i said debating if i should shell out 150 bucks for a drive or not it really wont make me or break me
-
see now thats 700 bucks and at dell its 725 all under their warranty -
The BD drive is worthless IMO. Unless you watch lots of HD movies on your laptop.
Now, if it was a BD Burner, that might be more worth it becaus of storage reasons. -
yea i think im gonna take that 150 and just get the QX straight from dell and have that under warranty -
Where are you ordering from?
QX9300 is a $900 upgrade in the U.S. so ebaying a $700 OEM saves you $200 and has a CPU that's covered under warranty from Intel. -
They'll let you do that?? I thought you could only extend what you already have.
-
So yea if you think they are the same thing then I wouldn't go with the BR. IMO I am completely happy paying less for pretty much the same quality. I mean everything BR is more expensive right now. I mean look at this...
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9124725&st=the+dark+knight&type=product&id=1919817
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9124743&st=blu+ray&type=product&id=1919817 -
lol, I would argue the other way around. I'm more likely to watch a Blu-Ray movie than to shell out the $10-$20 for 1 recordable Blu-Ray disc. I would just rather buy dual layer DVDs. Talk to me when the media starts selling under 50 cents a piece.
-
Well ive been reading all the post here about the warranty that you can renew it 10 days before Date of purchase or something like that
-
I have my PS3 attached to my 50" Sony SXRD
No BD on a 17" screen for me! -
im ordering from US T9600 is 175 more than the P8600 and was not in my initial setup lol it was either from DELL t9600 or qx9300 and if the T9600 wasnt enough for me then maybe go for Ebay qx9300 and 200 bucks doesnt justify hassel where if my dell breaks and is under warranty say i got a QX from dell then a tech would come to my house check it and replace what is needed, this has happened once on my 1720 a year ago mobo went bad they replaced the whole thing in my own house -
I have a 50" Pioneer Elite plasma in the basement with a PS3 but I will still like to watch movies elsewhere like with my 2 year old son in his room. Plus with the HDMI out you can connect it to a bigger screen in a different parts of the house.

-
will the m17x have a smartbay like the old m17x and m15?
-
I haven't had any experience of owning a laptop that takes 2 internal HDD's.
I've looked through the Service Manual and can see that the secondary HDD requires a caddy and an 'intermediate connector'.
If I order the laptop with only 1 HDD does it come with the caddy and 'intermediate connector' for the 2nd HDD or do I only get those if I buy 2nd HDD at time of order.
Cheers -
Having just gone through the Service Manual - No Smartbay
