I keep seeing it come up, how much more you have to pay.
Have any of you guys actually contacted Alienware or Dell to ask why?
I haven't seen any definitive answer to that question here.
EDIT: It's so quiet you can hear a pin drop. lol -

In this worldwide weak economy, I'm sure the prioriy of sales is here in the US.
They (Dellienware) will try to recoup costs from the rest of the world - however unfair that may be. -
Things even cost more in countries where the product is made!
Although very unfortunate, I don't think it's any fault of Alienware or Dell. -
You really believe that?
Is that what the appliance, and electronics, manufacturers all around the world are doing? Sticking it to themselves and the rest of the world so they can be nice to the U.S.?
It's not the originating countries that are doing this. It's the countries of destination that cause the prices to vary so much. -

Take my situation for example, i had an m17x configured for a certain price based on the US prices converted to CAN, plus Canadian taxes, all together would have cost me 2700 CAN tax inc, now that same laptop from the dell.ca costs me over 3100 officially putting it out of my price range, and now i either have to wait and see if its just a mistake and the price will come down, which hopefully it does, or dell just lost me and my money to who ever can give me similar performance for my budget. -
Rob-
Dell's premium systems are ALWAYS more expensive in other countries during the first few weeks of launch. Then they normalize.
How do you explain that?? -
Wait for a few weeks and you will see these listed on ebay so you can purchase them with US prices.
-
-
No.
During the launch of the 1730, the price in the US was much cheaper than overseas.
The price now is more equal to what we (Americans) pay.
I was in the Army and was stationed in Germany from 98 - 03, so I do know that electronics, etc are more expensive over there. A lot of times the prices you see overseas include VAT, which can be as much as 18%, IIRC. -
guys who want to order through EPP and get the nameplate, talk to a rep and they will take care of you
-
Thanks for the tip! -

Yes.
Dell warranties are 100% transferrable and, in the case of the M17x, should be too since it is being sold and supported by Dell.
There is a xfer ownership form on Dell's website. -

Oh yeah, just a heads up as a lot of people given the excitement and all probably haven't though about this but if you think you might want to sell your m17x down the road, maybe its a better idea to just take the stock m17x nameplate, it might be more palatable to a future potential buyer, than with one that has your name on it.
-
I was stationed over in Germany from 84-87, and many, many places globally.
And now you're only saying what I was all along!!!!!!!!!
It's not the fault of Alienware or Dell.
You've only hit the tip of the iceberg with the VAT etc. -
-
-
The VAT alone in Germany is 19% !!

here's a video of the curved diplay Gophn put up

be warned its like cloverfield with it lo
-
I would think most people would just take the standard M17x nameplate vs something customised . If you decide to sell your machine down the road it would be better if the machine didnt say "John's Super Laptop" on the bottom , unless of course the guy your selling it to happens to be named John also .
People really should take that suggestion to heart because most of us are pretty hardcore and wont keep these machines for ever . -

I wonder how much that mofo's gonna cost -
those guys on the phone are lazy bastar*s lol -
-
What's the res? Can a laptop handle it, and still be playable? -
I tried online chat before and had a bad experience. -
And I believe a M17x w/ sli 280's would push it just fine -
-
-
I hope the nameplate customization doesn't push you guys back a few weeks.
Just something to think about.... -
-
I dont know if it has been posted, but here you go. The guy fails with alienFX so hard.

Sorry, dbl post. Again.
I'll shudder when I see the pricetag. -
He also said shipping within 1 week.
Don't know if I trust a guy who doesn't know how to use AlienFX. -
Yeah...that failing on alienfx...his fault or comps fault. I'm not sure if i would prefer if it was him who cant use a computer...The guy who designs them, or the the comp..decisions.
-
I don't think he was a designer - just a "lowly" spokesperson (glorified salesman)
-
Ah, well I see him in the vast majority of the alienware videos. But I like your answer more.
-
Well, then he might be a designer.
Just don't know..... -
he is on a lot of their web/marketing videos hima and the guy with the handle bar mustache
