I should confirm that I'm from the UK and here we use date/month/year format as opposed to the month/date/year format which you Americans use. =p

    A 42" 2880x900 is the equivalent of two 24" 16:10 displays running 1440x900 or ~71 DPI.

Those are pretty big pixels. 3360x1050 @ 84 DPI would've been a nicer picture.

    Or even a 41.7" screen running 3840x1080 @ 96DPI, which would be two 23" 16:9 displays running 1920x1080

Thank for the reply. I like the idea of getting a second 260 later. The question is, is it possible? In the xps 1730, the sli 8800 cards were sold as one "piece", if you know what i mean ;)
Does anyone know if they are going to add low-end cpu's (8600) to the europe site?

the GPUs are definitely separate in the M17x, so i think upgrading shouldn't be a problem.

The other guys name is Brian DeZayas, he is part of the marketing team. (handlebar)

And the frank Azor guy who was on the video with the alienfx not working who is in alot of the videos in part of the Product team. Whatever that means.

The cards are separate, so there should be no problem adding another one later by ordering it from dell or sending it in to have them install it. as for the CPU's you will just have to wait and see.

The 260M is basically a die shrunk 9800M GTX.. 112 stream processors, and higher core, shader and memory clocks. it is comparable to a desktop 9800 GT, only the 260M has higher memory bandwidth 61 gbps vs 9800 GT's 57 gbps.

NEC makes it and AW rebadges it. Pretty common (ie look at all the Clevo rebadges)

Obviously as said before I'm trying to decide between Sager 9280 and the new Alienware... I think I am going to get the Alienware but I have some questions... The new alienware has 3 gpu's, 2 280's in sli, and the intergrated... but what does that mean about the Motherboard, is it as good as the one the 9280 is using, and were the MXM 3.0b slots confirmed?

well, for starters, you can't compare notebook motherboards the way you can compare desktop mobos. the latter are made to certain specs, while notebook mobos are custom designed for a certain chassis and component group.

MXM3.0b is rather probable, as it is mentioned in the AW service manual for the M17x.

It has an extra embedded GPU to downpower teh gfx when you want to take it easy. You also have the option of turning of the 280`s or 260`s in the BIOS directly :p AFAIK the 9280 doesnt have a 3rd GPU.

OK, and lol I'm sorry I meant the chipset that Sager 9280 uses versus the Alienware's M17x.... and Is the power lessened becuase of the intergrated GPU (which Is awesome, and I could really use in college

LOL some guy was trying to say the new macbook pro was better than the new alienware m17x hardware wise, from what I gathered from these youtube videos. It made me lol when the guy in the second video maxed out a macbook pro and it was like 1000 dollars more than an m17x with similar specs, the base m17x graphics card is way better than the best macbook pro graphics card. It was funny because I dont see how you can compare the two hardware wise, which is what the guy in the first video was trying to do lol.

I will have an article and video of the new M17x up on the front page shortly. Alienware's CEO Arthur R. Lewis Jr and their Executive VP of Product Group and Marketing Frank Azor gave me a nice tour. ;)

I had both the silver and black ones side by side as well.

    Patience!

Rofl, well in the second video, he maxed out the macbook pro, then he just put the same specs on the m17x except the video card because the lowest the alienware m17x had was the 260m GTX. It made me lol so much because no way can you compare the hardware of both of those and say the mac has better hardware when the alienware m17x is clearly better hardware wise, even when both machines have similar specs the alienware still beats it out because of the graphics card lol.
