Ugh, attempting to order and cannot find the nameplate customization option. Anyone know where it is?

 

you should feel lucky with that price, in Canada my configured system cost around CA$3500 and end up at CA$4000. (and no discount can be applied in Canada)... I have haerd worse thing about UK and UE tax and price lol, so I think at least I can feel a bit "luckier" than those guys, and you should be the same, dude.

 

It isn't available on the Dell Euro website.

Previous benchmarks and testing done on the NBR forums have shown the GTX 280M and GDDR3 4870 cards to be very close to even each winning their share of games. The question is whether or not GDDR5 will make the 4870 pull ahead.

 

Tried that. Does yours show up in the "Also Includes" section? Mine does, but is says "Standard Nameplate (Alienware M17x)"

 

+rep does entice me but there i no way I'm going back to find it. I have a hard enough time catching up on this thread when I wake up or during the day.

 

If the GDDR changes does that affect ATI drivers at all? With all ive read about the ATI 4XXX driver performance thus far I wouldn't want to see what happens when they start from scratch again...

I am not very knowledgable on GDDR so what i said could make no sense

 

If anything it's the GDDR3 type 4870s that needed the driver changes. ATI's reference Mobility 4870 was always GDDR5 to separate it from the Mobility 4850.

 

I contacted Dell and Microsoft in regard to the free Windows 7 upgrade voucher and both companies pointed me to the other company...so helpful.

Damn, talking to a Dell CS, apparently they said customization of nameplate is not offered. It used to be? I checked last night and it was lol.

 

im thinking their will be a red model they would commit suicide if they showed that red model and didnt release it.

But it is werid they didn't have it released from the beginning

I just checked without the discount you are right it shows up, but with it, it won't show up.

 

Well i just found out on the Dell website. On the support pages there are no chipset drivers listed for the Intel Centrino 2 chipset, but for the Nvidia MCP79 chipset which also has integrated 9400M graphics.

The MCP79 chipset supports both DDR2- 800 and DDR3-1333 memory, and comes with a plethora of goodies, such as single-channel TMDS interface for HDMI 1.2, 3 Gbps SATA/eSATA, and up to 20 PCIe 2.0 lanes.

Other functionalities will depend on the chipset version, given the fact that Nvidia plans to release six stock keeping units of the chip. The lowest-end version will be he MCP79ML, that will come without RAID 0/1, PCIe x16, DisplayCache, and DriveCache support. The highest-end offerings are MCP79GLM, that will come with a Quadro graphics controller, and the MCP79-SLI with full SLI support.

Seems only HDMI 1.2. I don't know if it has digital audio over HDMI.

 

I did EPP over the phone yesterday and they asked me what I wanted my nameplate to say...so I don't think the cow is correct here.

If you are having trouble with the website do it via phone, its only slightly more painful.

 

More choice can only be a good thing. Whether it performs better or worse, you still have to consider value for money - maybe the 4870 will come in at a better price point or offer better performance/cost? Maybe Dell will be able to play Nvidia and Ati off of each other (when ordering) to negotiate a better price on either cards.

Still not fixed for EU, at least. Though, we have been able to order without McAfee since release.

Looks like you educating yourself on this just fine without me. One side note all HDMI versions carry audio.

one thing to keep in mind guys the raw aluminum UNDER the black anodized i gaurantee will be silver in color. so if you were to accidentally scratch and nick the black you will have a nice silver spot showing through. with the silver you will almost not even see it.

im just waiting for my new dpa account number and my payment towards my other card to pay it off to clear before ordering this. i have WAY to many open cards and accounts i need to start closing them. but im pretty positive this will be my next system and this may even replace my crazy desktop setup which honestly i hardly use because i hate being stuck sitting in the one spot at my desk while im at home

it tried now too. on the us site i can customize template. on the uk one i cant. whats going on Dell-Alienware? Uk website sucks so much?

 

^^^ ill bet money the slappa bags will fit it. they are awesome imo very well made. they are what i used for both my 1730's and my whitebook..
