-
I started when they reincarnated it to beast wars which was a great show even won an emmy
-
Da**! now I really feel old. I think they came out after I was out of the Army!
-
Sorry....we're digressing anyway. Back to the subject at hand.
-
lol im not even 20 .....
-
Hmmm seems like my questions got missed due to how fast this thread moves.
So if I order with one HDD, would I be able to put in another one? Without needing any hardware like hp?
Also someone tell me if it's worth the extra cash to go from 1 gtx260m to 2 gtx260m's.
Thanks,
walalang023 -
yes it well worth the cash and you can put in another HD easy as Autobots kill deceptacons
-
lol nice.........
-
does anyone know what brand of ssd the m17x will use?
-
samsung thats what everyone else is saying
-
samsung has been the choice for AW since they started offering them.
however, since this is a dell/AW co-op venture, it is an uncertain brand until we can get confirmation from an owner. or from AW. -
I finally noticed that the SLI is being advertised as 2GB of video ram. That's pretty misleading.
-
It'd be more confusing if the cards were 512 each, but eh, it's no big deal. Anyone who honestly thinks 2GB vram would make a difference (if it were) was already caught in the trap anyway.
-
wait 2GB of VRAM is not better than 1GB? Dual GTX280m is same as one?
(I'm new to this and now I'm confused.) -
care to clairfy? offer your reasons why? please...lol
-
I'll help ya out. In Sli and Xfire, the framebuffer is cloned on both GPUs. So you only have the vram of one card. Really though, 1GB is a ton.
-
hmm that sounds good then!
How so?
walalang023 -
More is always better! Sometimes.....
If I remember there was something posted ( sorry forgot where)about test's done with GPU's that had 256 VRAM, 512 VRAM and 1 GB 0f VRAM and for gaming the benifets of more VRAM were not to noticable.Or somwhere along those lines.
Somebody correct me if I am wrong.
Dual GTX's are just that 2 GPU's that work together (SLI in Nvidia's case) to offer increased performance for gaming.
And in that case more is definetely better than one.
-
I'm really wondering if Dell/AW have done their homework on this rig regarding compatibility with Win 7. Those who ordered early will get to install the RC, but with the RTM 6-8 weeks away that doesn't leave a lot of time to report any last-minute bugs if folks are getting the first shipments 4 weeks out. That has me a little concerned.
Hopeless timing maybe on the part of Dell to release a machine this close to a major OS roll-out, but it would be a shame for early adopters to have problems down the road. True, Vista wasn't too great either until SP1 arrived.
Thinking along the same lines, anybody know if Dell has plans to offer Vista with "SP2" between now and Win 7 GA? -
yes i would really like to know if one GPU is just as good as two cuz if i can knock off $300 thats a win.
-
vista sp2 can be downloaded if it isn't installed already
If you want to save money bro, ditch the 1333 RAM for 1066
Also I'd go with a single HDD and consider an SSD later. Raid is meh these days -
ya i was thinking of waiting for ssd but i want it now! lol im sure they will go down in price in a few months.... or at least i hope
-
hoping to order one in mid-late July after all the early-adopters review them. I'm really excited. Been searching 8 months for a gaming laptop to replace my faithful Dell laptop of 2.5 years.
First it was the OCZ Whitebook/M17, then the Sager D900F, now i'm hoping this will be my baby for the next 3+ years. -
As was said, you'll only use the memory of one card. Technically, you do indeed have 2GB, but adding 1 + 1 is the incorrect way to list them.
-
I wzas told the SSD drives are Hitachi a few months ago by a guy at Alienware. Not sure Dell use the same
-
The Dells have been Samsung. I asked the CS which drive it was and he wasn't sure but assumed it was Samsung. We'll see when they come in.
-
really? pretty much everyone here got Sammies...
-
I'm interested in this also. Worst case scenario we will have to call Dell spare parts for bracket and cable. Once the invoices start showing up on the website we should be able to tell.
-
Looking in the service manual.
You might need a bracket and something they call an interposer (some sort of add-on connector). -
Waiting very impatiantly for my order confirmation! GIEF email nowz! Guess it's because it's a Sunday
-
we'll have none of that around here. /b/tards are native to 4chan.org and do no migrate to civilized forums

rules 1 & 2, etc...

Anyone else getting really excited that the weekend is almost over and we may see if Dell is actually building these bad boys in 3-5 business days this week?
Cant believe I want the weekend to feel shorter... -
rule 42.

I don't know why but I thought it would be kinda funny if Dellienware made another count down site where you put in your order number and it counts down to the ship time lol
-
Love to see some benchmarks to see if this machine is that much faster than a M1730 with X9000@3GHz and 2 9800M GTX SLI.
Might be a surprise! -
I guess it might be because of the weekend. I am also waiting for any update since Friday.
Are you from Europ?
When did you order? -
Hey guys what do you think of this setup
Lunar Silver – Anodized Aluminum
Intel® Core™2 Duo T9600 2.8GHz (6MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
Windows Vista® Home Premium (64-bit Edition) with Service Pack 1
Dual NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 280M, 2GB – SLI® Enabled
17-inch WideUXGA 1920x1200 (1200p)
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz
1TB - 2x 500GB 7,200RPM - RAID 0 (lots of movies and music)
Slot-Load Dual Layer Blu-ray Combo (BR-ROM, DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
Comes to 3k -
I think this is a popular setup around here. Plan on doing any upgrades yourself?
-
This is a Must get
Very useful -
i'm assuming this is the recovery software which is something Dell had always provided for free in the past.
-
The respawn stuff is recovery media so they are charging for it.
-
I don't see why it's a must but I've never owned an Alienware.
-
It isn't a must to most ppl on these forums. I would imagine most of us do a clean install (I know that's the first thing I do
)
-
Is there any info on the touch pad?
I went to Futureshop this morning and noticed that some touch pads have high coefficient of friction when your finger is sweaty. I hope this wont be a problem with the m17x -
Clean install is the way to go assuming all the special hardware apps are available somewhere. This again is something Dell has always provided.
-
All the apps will be available on the Dell Support site and the Drivers and Apps DVD that comes with the system.
-
Thanks!!!
