MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
-
i figured but just thought i would ask anyway. some makers dont offer interior specs and just generalize in terms of: fits most 17" notebooks...
that is why i took my unit to best buy and other places and tested all the packs before getting my current one. -

What about this one it is fairly simple and sleek... not to mention less expensive

I found the PERFECT one, I'm sure you will all agree

(my favorite website)
-
(pretends he didn't see that) btw phinagle good find, if that was in 17 i would maybe grab that. I will most likely try to get the booq boa slimcase XXL. Looks>all for me =P

That would like triple the power of my backpack! Yoda + M17x is enough force to move a planet!

Megacharge Custom User Title
So you did not order from the dell Canada site how did you order by phone? and did you get quoted the US prices + exchange and tax?, did you manage to avoid the prices from the dell Canada site? they are about 250.00 more expensive base price than the US site, and more for individual upgrades as well, and that's not including the exchange rate. How much did you pay and what configuration did you get? -
I don't think the Boa Slimcase XXL will contain the M17x. Internals on the bag are smaller than the laptop and from the pics it doesn't look like it has any room to stretch.
That's a 17" Mac in there and it's corners are right where the zipper is. -
Not to disregard your visual comment, but the interior specifications that they put up actually would contain the m17x. THEY State, the picture doesn't agree but it says it could hold it...(shrugs)
nevermind were both wrong. They use the same pic for every slimcase and they have different sizes, so i bet that isn't the XLL. -
Can this laptop output multichannel audio over hdmi, or are they using that port only for video?
-
dual vid and audio over hdmi...if i read specs right...lemme chk
-
and we're sure the orion wouldnt fit the M17x?
-
I don't see why it would not fit in the Orion backpack specs of it are: 19.1" x 13.25" x 3.0" For interior/device compatibility. The m17x will be 16.5 x 11.5 x 2.
I just dont like the orion that much, hence my interest in finding one that will fit and look good.
Also the orion messenger back should fit it. Odyssey i dont know the specs are not listed on the site. -
ok - well all the specs i can look at do not define for sure if audio and video can be run on the hdmi.
all i can find is that the hdmi can be used for video for external options and all i get for audio is talk about the capabilites of 5.1 from the audio ports on the side.
does not really help - sorry. -
Sounds like we both looked at the same PDF file.
-
thanks for looking it up though
-
hehe....i bet we did.
but it seems all the more recent hdmi ports both i/o offer audio along with it.
but this could be the first time i am wrong...
-
no worries..
-
One thing I noticed is that the media card reader in the M17X supports SDHC.
I've wished either one of my A.W.'s had that. -
Backpacks!
Who are you guys trying to kid, you will all be carrying it around like a baby, nestled in your arms.
-
ohhh yea
hey guys if any one wants AW Orion compared or pics or shown with my m17 lemme kno quick -
I'm gunna mod a hilt onto it and wear it strapped across my back like The Buster Sword from Final Fantasy.
Another reason Silver > Black. -
hey guys do you think its worth the wait to get an SSD or since they are cheaper upgrade than doing it aftermarket should I just get one now?
-
your call i have one a Vertex SSD i cant say enough about the vertex series
-
oh ya also will i be able to upgrade from one gpu to two or if i just get one am i stuck with it?
-
yes you can upgrade to 2
-
price wise for the SSD, i would let them install it for you.
while prices are a bit cheaper from outside sources, the differnce in what you pay for the upgrade is worth it for first time SSD buyers.
i have an SSD and desire never to go back...i will fork out the extra funds for them from now on. -
Are u saying vertex is the best ssd right now? i saw something on here saying that the Mtron was better than most...
-
same here but i would only get one for the OS
the vertex or intel SSD are the fastest .. i prefer vertex because its the 2 fastest for hundreds cheaper.
i have the 30 gig vertex and use it for just OS and programs games and media go on the other one -
I'm with you on that one ryujin, I love my SSD's!
-
wait installing an ssd is not like installing an hdd? i was just gonna wait until they get a little cheaper and better overall...
-
mega SSD thread
have fun reading...lol
all you ever wanted to know and more...but be warned - you will get and be confused by the time you get to page 33.
from there it is all a blur...lol
get the SSD, you wont regret it. -
SSD's is the same as installing a HD
an d they are already 4 times as fast as a HD
about 2.5 times faster then my 160 seagate -
in that case should i get just 128 gb 256 gb or go ftw with 512 gb (2x256gb RAID-0) SSD?
-
depends.
if you have libraries of data then go for the larger units.
as Moo said though, you can get the SSD for the main drive and have the OS installed on that one along with games and such, then use a HDD for storage of data...
raid 0 in SSD is sick in my opinion....lol (sick = fast as shyte)
ps: i should mention that i use my SSD for the OS and games and program launches. i then use the smartbay HDD for data storage. this was to test the SSD and get a feeling for it. from here i will prob do same set up if not raid 0 SSD. -
hmmm.... well, im still not sure. my checkbook says to go with 128gb but my gamer side says go ftw. i think i might just go for the 256gb, that should suffice and as ssd's become cheaper i'll upgrade. i just don't know how to do RAID config but i'll cross that bridge when i get there.
-
Can you put 2 disk in the AW without removing the DVD drive ?
I have ordered a 320 gig disk but i'll definitly buy a SSD later will i be abme to have both in ?
Thx -
New guy here.
I hope to use your expertise in order to put together a perfect machine.
I will mostly use this for work and some play. I just hate usual boring business laptop look. I cant wait to whip this thing out at the next meeting
.
Here is are my thoughts
Q9000 2.0GHz (6MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
Single NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M, 1GB ( wont be doing enough gaming )
17-inch WideUXGA 1920x1200
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
128 GB solid SSD ( plenty size for my needs )
Blue Ray
I can really use your feedback on the following...
Im assuming SSD its MLC at this price. I also noticed not many of you are going SSD route. Does anybody know more detail on the SSD m17x comes with? Any suggestions for or against going this route?
Im planning on adding MFT ( managed flash technology) software, any feedback how effective they are. They make some nutty claims.
RAM is 1333 worth $50 over 1066
Thanx in advance for your help -
Newegg will have the Intel 80GB SSD for $290 tomorrow. I'd take the base factory HDD instead and order that.
1333 RAM is pointless, being CL9.
Just keep in mind it weighs ~11 pounds. There's a 7 pound 15" with the same specs I won't mention the name of, because I'll be attacked lol. But if you wanna know... just ask
-
Really! A 15"
Same specs as the M17x.Quad core? 280M GTX Sli?
I would love to know
-
-->
mmhmm -
Cant do anything less than 17", much too used to the size and I like the keyboard size. I have a 2 year old 17" HP now, its just about 11lbs as well. I prefer not to jack with installs if their SSD is worth anything. But I have not had much luck finding out what they use.
-
yes and yes
just will not be able to do raid 0 and i am not sure raid at all since the drives wont match (i.e. one SSD and one HDD)
most users have found they use samsung in the units. mine is in my m15x. -
Gotcha.
I guess you mean the SAGER NP8662
That is a great machine but not quite what I had in mind. Thanks for crushing my dreams.
Great job
C'mon anothergeek you can say it S-A-G-E-R.SAGER
Are you one of those haters that is only loyal to AW?
You have to admit SAGER does make some quality stuff, maybe not as flashy as AW but nonetheless extremely capable gaming rigs. -
most users have found they use samsung in the units. mine is in my m15x.[/QUOTE]
Glad to hear they are using Samsung. Any idea on read/write times?
Can you really tell the difference? -
Are the Intel X25-M 80 GB ok?
What does MLC mean.
Sorry, I'm a total noob when it comes to SSD's. -
not sure on times..
but for difference - hell yes! boot and load times rock! -
MLC
intels are reported to be faster and a bit more stable...but at a cost differnce of near double for less storage space.
as far as SSD's, samsung and OCZ make excellent units for dbl storage space and a bit of sacrifice in speed compared to intels.
you can tell the difference from HDD, but from SSD to SSD, maybe a nanoseconds in time difference. -
I will probably snag that Intel as a secondary drive at that price.
Monster performance difference between SLC and MLC. ( Single level vs Multi level ). Single level are usually much quicker and the way to go. Problem.... scary costs. This is why most computers will use MLC right now. -
Well, the performance difference isn't THAT huge. The real benefit of SLC drives is that they'll last MUCH longer than MLC drives.
Also, you might as well use it as a primary and just have a large 500gb drive as secondary. Install any games or large programs on the primary and just stick data on your other drive. That way, windows and apps will boot incredibly fast.
