Excuse my ignorance with the M17x but after removing the drivers that came with the laptop, I rebooted and when trying to execute the 186.82 setup, the wizard kicks in but gives me an error:
"The Nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit"
I'm sure I'm missing something.... Any ideas?
Do I HAVE to disable the on board GFX card?
-
Yes, i had the same problem.
First, how did you remove the driver?
Through the System> Device manager> Uninstall drivers of your GPU's or through the programs and features menu?
You should do it through removing it by the second. Choose Nvidia and remove only your GPU drivers leave the chipset etc. in place.
Second, your problem could be solved by going to System> Advanced system settings(left menu)> Harware(tab)> Windows Update Driver Settings > Select the middle one or if this doesn't do the trick the one below.
Third, disable or not to disable your integrated GPU (9400M) depends on what driver you are going to install. (The 186.81/82 are working fine with Hybrid SLI).
Hopefully you'll get it fixed, in my case I had to do a fresh install after messing up the GPU drivers. My system somehow was locked in stealth mode. -
If downloading the driver from LV2Go:
Once the driver is extracted, look inside the directory for the 'Additional INFs' .zip archive. Extract this and copy/paste the 'nv_whql.inf' into the top level of the 186.82 directory. Once this is done, run the setup.exe app to install. This is required for the driver to recognize the hardware in the M17x. The default INF (nvfu.inf) does not support the M17x GPUs.
This is the step you are missing. -
Thanks, what I did is called AW and spoke to a very good tech, he recommended that I disable the on-board and also said to keep it disabled until Nvidia releases better support for this configuration. However I went with the 186.81 drivers.... are .82 that much better?

You do not need to disable the 9400. 179.85, 186.12, 186.24, 186.81 and 186.82 support the M17x and HybridSLI completely.
Have fun testing -
What's also important is to have three VGA adapters installed in your device manager prior to installing any new GPU driver. Do you see this?
-
in your opinion, for game performance are better the 190.62 (with evga patch but no hybrid) or the 186.82 with enabled hybrid? thx

I have been away for some time....

I know most people have been just using the laptopvideo2go release instead of the nVidia release to install their drivers, but I prefer to use the nVidia infs simply because they seem more stable under different conditions (sleep, hibernate resume, etc). The reason the nVidia inf doesn't work (for people with 260's and Windows 7) is because it's missing entries for the hardware in one section. As far as I can tell, they're listed under the Vista section, but not the Windows 7 one. To fix that, all you really need to do is add the following 3 lines to the end of the section [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.1] in the NVDM.INF file.
Code:%NVIDIA_DEV.0862.01% = Section034, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0862&SUBSYS_02711028 %NVIDIA_DEV.0862.02% = Section034, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0862&SUBSYS_02A11028 %NVIDIA_DEV.0618.01% = Section010, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0618&SUBSYS_02A11028

Well, guys, I'm completely lost. First of all what was the problem/s with the stock 179.85 drivers? Is there REALLY a perf. boost with the .81/82 ones? And if yes, what is the safe way to install the new ones. Do I need to remove the stock dr. and then run a driver cleaner before installing the new ones or can I just install the new ones (in case if there is an urge to roll back)?

I mean the modified desktop drivers that is...
-
Anyone tested these on m9750 or 8700m gt?
-
I would also like to know the performance difference too!
-
yes tomx i use a m9750 with dual 8700's and its running quite well. i noticed a difference
-
-
Whats GPU setup do you have? -
So questions(s):
What has to be done to attempt to use a modified desktop driver? Which version should I try, and are there instructions to do it? I plan on picking up one of those uber expensive display port adapters in one last ditch effort to connection my 30 inch display... Any help is greatly appreciated.
thanks! -
Hi , im having the same problem with GLZMO
before windows 7 , i had vista , and installed it as it worked fine...
but now it doesnt work at all with windows 7,
same problem as GLZMO,
did anyone find a solution yet ? -
Use the 186.82 driver. See post 1 of this thread. UPDATE NOTE IN RED @ bottom of post.

Is there any rhyme or reason to the numbering system of nVidia's drivers? How in the hell do you figure out which .xx version of of each set of drivers does what? And they say ATI has no driver support, but nVidia is all over the damn place, at least ATI's numbering system makes sense 9.10 = 2009 Oct Version of drivers for ALL ATI GPUs. There's no picking and choosing as to which 18x.xx version of what works for what nVidia chip with/without external monitor, with/without scaling or whatever, I'm so confused.
-
The NVIDIA Driver version numbering convention is an enigma in itself... always has been.

Closing this thread since its basically pointless and the 186.82 and higher is a better choice.
186.81 Mobile Released - get it while its hot :)
