Razer 14" is good don't get me wrong but i'll take proper adequate none throttling cooling, 1080p IPS display w/ better contrast ratio and color gamut, optical drive, ethernet port, card reader and other extra ports for 2 more lbs and thickness.

Oh god that's great. I read a leak that the M18x would only have up to 770m SLI. I have a $5,000 USD budget ready. This should be good!

Yeah prices aren't as high as I though they would be. Still not exactly cheap though.

We still have to wait for the real official starting base price here in the States. Then deduct another 15-25% discount from my AW/Dell rep or haggling for some.

After looking at the new line, I dropped any lingering feelings of regret over buying my m17x R4 a month ago. The new line seems very well built with aluminum, but I still adore the M-line's appearance (I assume they are dropping the M__x and are relabeling the new notebooks). I kind of want an Alienware 14 now, since they are decently fast with a 765M, but I'm in love with the aesthetics of old line. It looks like a monster (oh, the sexy ridges on the speakers) rather than a beautified Clevo.

Damn, just noticed the 1080p display on the AW 14. I would be sold.

According to the Japanese website the m17x base model starts at ~$2000. If you add the screen, the 780M GPU and a middle class CPU 4800MQ it easily passes $3000. How can you guys say that is not expensive?! I think it is way too much. I hope this not the case for US & Canada, because I have to think twice if I really want to pay almost 40% more than others... Yes, you cannot compare clevo with alienware, but a clevo at that specification is about $2000 or even less... Few more hours to go :D

I'm gonna take a guess and say that they will price the new AW's quite inexpensive. OriginPC recently released a 17 inch notebook with 780m and that was around $2300 with similar specs to the new AW 17. Origin tends to be more expensive than AW IIRC, after haggling. So I'll say the new model with 780m will be no more than what a M17x with 680m costs now tops. I know it seems rather stupid that some people are buying the 680m now, but they are offering heavy discounts over phone and I doubt the same would occur with the new AW revisions. I myself got a 680m for about $1,700 new, so it's easy to see 780m's replace old m17x prices.

sorry im not convinced just yet. all I got here is 5-6 USB 3.0 enclosure and 2-3 USB 3.0 high performance sticks, I can't have ANY issues at all even if they say theres no data loss concern. I'm not convinced and not willing to take that risk until a newer chipset revision. im just being extra careful thats all.

yep, time to go for clevo.. may as well go for their Desktop/server CPU laptop lineup. more performance etc.

yea pretty lame. got two esata raid enclosure here as well don't wanna lose it, BUT it could work towards internal hardware such as increasing in sata III ports which is good but at this point no one knows whats inside so I will wait.

@TboneSan. the new look depresses me lol, and decrease in external ports as well, no esatap, no expresscard slot.. loses out a lot of bonuses. now need to wait to see what is inside of this thing!

The Dell India Site in English seems to say that the m17x's HDMI port is both input and output. That's good to see =)

You can pretty much nitpick any small problems and they'll let you return it far later. I returned mine 60+ days later to wait for the new models.

That maybe true about the nitpicking, but you still need to jump thru hurdles to get it returned, at least in that 21 day window all you have to say is I'm not happy with it and they'll take it back.

Do they still charge a restocking fee? I bought an Alienware almost 2 years ago and had to struggle to get my money back without the fee.

    After 60+ days...

"I've been having problems with my laptop, I'd like to return it."

"Okay we'll send you a label, it's free shipping and you will get a full refund with no restocking fee"

    "Okay, thanks"

Took me about 3 minutes. Didn't have to haggle about the restocking fee or anything.

    :D

Yeah! That is a bit unusual. Even in Canada is maximum 30 days, no questions asked... But he really got lucky to send it back after 60 days, they never do that especially now when they got a refreshed system.

New to Alienware, but keeping an eye on this release because I'm in the market for a new notebook for work and play. I'm a web designer and work out of the house and just want a bit of portability to go sit on the sofa or out on the deck. Also, it'd be great to have a powerful computer to hook to my TV for big screen gaming. Can any creative types speak to their experiences with previous revs of the Alienware in a mixed work/gaming environment? Silly idea? Awesome idea?

I do a lot of photography and use mine all the time for editing pictures in Lightroom and CS6 and my M18x R1 kicks butt. I shoot RAW with a Nikon D800 and my file sizes are 75MB a piece. My friends will come over to process some pictures so they don't have to wait forever for their machines to render everything.

I stayed up 20 hours for this. Alienware, put the IPS panel in the 17incher!

To me, 15.6inch is still small. The laptop already weighs 7lbs, 2 more lbs shouldn't matter too much right, for a bigger screen. But 17inch isn't exactly that much bigger than 15.6.....

As a side note, the PS4 is pretty freaking awesome, 100 bucks cheaper than Xbox One, DRM-less, support for used games, and tonnes of indie games!

For the thickness in the 14x to be excusable it needs XM processor support with overclocking. Dual heatsinks and support for atleast a 770GTX.

Take away the DVD drive in the 14x. Keep it in the 17 and 18 by all means but i dont want to see this kind of compromise on the 14x.

I don't fancy KH3, but the FF dunno what number (I have never played FF before) won my heart. I might try it out, the Japanese version, since I can understand it.

I would love to get the M18x, but a decked out M18x cost close to $4000 USD after conversion from Korean Won/Japanese Yen. I would prefer if it stays below 3.5k...that's the price of a Stax SR-009.
