In NiBiTor, before you save all of the changes you made to the BIOS, you need to change the device ID back to "060A (unsupported)" after using 9800M GTX ID, 0617, as a substitute. The current version of NiBiTor doesn't recognise the G92b ID, so we use a G92 ID, in which NiBiTor can read, as a temporary.
-
???what changes am i supposed to make ???
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Whether you have the GTX 280M BIOS or the GTX 260M BIOS, you still need to change the device ID in that drop down menu to the 9800M GTX ID and hit rescan BIOS. That way NiBiTor will properly read the values on the BIOS.
-
ok ill jump on there in a sec... sorry for being such a noob
-
Everyone has there areas of expertise Moo, i wouldnt worry to much about it .
-
like soviet wanted ??? i am confused now -
why is there 2 9800m GTX's?
-
ok if i use one 9800m GTX it makes bot device ID's 0617
.....
When i save the new BIOS should i rename to bios with a 280 device ID or a 260 device id ? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Yes, there are two 9800M GTX ID's; one for the older 0608 BIOS and one for the newer 0617 BIOS.
Again, before you save all the changes you have made to the BIOS, switch the device ID back to the original unsupported BIOS at the bottom of the list.
Also, could I get a copy of your GTX 280M BIOS? I am curious to see what differences there are between the two other GTX 280M BIOS versions I have. -
what am i changing ?
It was supposed to just be a straight flash -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I don't know, you tell me. I've given everything one needs to know about flashing a G92b by the second page and I have repeated a lot of the info as much as thrice in this thread already.

I'm not an expert at bios flashing GPU's in fact I've never done it, but if I get the idea correctly I think it goes something like, opening the 280M bios in NiBiTor changing its device ID to the 9800M GTX ID so it can be properly read, once it can read all the 280M info correctly then you change the device ID back to 060A or what ever it was to start with and save it, then flash it, on the 260M. Please correct me if I am wrong Soviet, thanks.

Yeah, what Crylo said, haha. He got it down in one long sentence.
I usually leave the decide ID as 9800M GTX until I am done editing all of the BIOS parameters before I change the device ID back. But the way you explained it also works the same as well. -
yea thats why it had me so confused
I thought you were saying i had to change something ....
Sorry soviet i understood that and i already tried to flash and it threw up errors
The last one being the board ID's were different and they are not ....Which is why i asked about Nbitor Which i have fully functional (I'm not a full noob)
Anyway i don't have my flash drive to boot from since im home to take care of my grandpa after surgery -

Ok cool, thanks Soviet, well hopefully now we can get this finished once and for all and see if we can access those 16 stream processors, I'm sure Nvidia cut them on the 260M, but if they didn't then we can save a lot of cash.

if it does work.
to alot of people. but i think they did cut them. like they did the 8600m gs and the 8600m gt(16 vs 32 SP's)
the last time i heard they just disabled it in the bios was the 68xx series and that was a big mistake on there part(not for us) so i think they learned there lesson. but hey we still can try.
-
can i boot from a SD card?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i haven't be able to boot from an sd from none of my notebooks (the ones that was built in at least.) but if you have one for the flash drive i think it might work.
-
i found an OLD 256 mb jump drive
already made the Dos -
ok wish me luck ....

the ??? is the name of the rom file make sure it is exact -
DO NOT DO IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CRAPPERS
ok i flashed it successfully
by successfully it bricked the card
I went into BIOS blind and enabled the 9400m and now the 260 is useless
I will try a blind flash now -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
you have a back right?
-
-
a back up?
hellz yea i do i made sure to put both the 280 and 260 bios in the same folder -
wait in device manager i have a standard VGA adapter !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Which means the driver needs to be installed -
-
kinda hard when you have to download 80 mb's with satilite internet ...
Either way BIOS won't show on the 260 ...with the 280 bios on it -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Lol. try that first and see what happens. but it should read the 280m if it worked and installed what every driver you had on there the first time.
-
??? i can't understand you Don
... i think its just not ment to be -
Hopefully its reversible
.
-
it is if i flash it blind
I can get NVflas to work ...in Vista due to it being non 64 bit -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
it says you have 256 shaders. that's alot i would run something.(don't). but yeah i would flash back. do you have the 260m bios?
i was saying to reinstall the driver but now that i see the gpu-z i would just try to fix the bios instead. -
i'd personally love to have :
4 gigs of DDR4 VRAM
with 256 shaders
Its like a super card -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
oh man i didn't even see that. make sure you keep picture so you can show everyone what your packing with a moddied bios. i hope you get it fixed.
the device id can mess it up also correct? -
Tell me if I am reading this right, you flashed it and card got bricked and now you are trying to revert back... so is there still a chance of this working at all?
-
Yeah bad flashes always give out crazy numbers . sounds cool though.
-
-
ok
I flashed and i got a black screen .....since i disabled the 9400m in BIOS before i flashed...
Apon reboot i spammed F2 went into BIOS ( i memorized the way to enable the 9400m) ( all this was a black screen since the 260mGTX does not work )
i activated it and right now im on my 9400m -
when 4 people say it won't work in a row and i secretly knew ...... lets just say i saved some headache -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~

BTW im back -
So is the card working proper again ?.
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Either he's back or it ended up flashing as an FX 3700! lol
-
yea i flashed it back sucessfully ... but now i really wanna get it working .......It loaded as a Quadro (280) in NVflash .... so it must of been working but when i tried to install drivers it exited and said could not find compatible hardware
Should i reflash it and try DoX?
