the 280 is a moddied fx 3700. i think at least.

What do you think Don ?
It worked and flashed over but the drivers were messed up .... -
I would try dox drivers before flashing again and see what you have in GPU-Z. No matter if it says 280m or Quadro 3700 you want to know the specs . like if they changed.

will was the 260m device id. and then you use the 280m device id. this is how the computer tells the difference between the gpus.
if i were you i would do one of two things.
try and reflash the the 260m bios again and see what happens.
or you can boot into windows. if it is reading it as a fx3700 and see what happens with the device manager and gpu-z and then we can go from there -

Don i didn't understand you ???
What i am hearing is reflash to 280 BIOS and try to install a Dox driver?
my only problem is booting i can't see without the 9400m .... which prevent's Dox's from installing -
-
no because it only load the 9400m its disabled in BIOS ...
good idea so if i screw up i can reable it that way
I will reflash to the 280 BIOS... then see if windows will boot... ill even try a Vista CD to see if it will produce a image....
Only issue is BIOS won't show which means something is messed up somewhere...i unno be back in a sec carry on -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
my bad i'm tired and doing stupid stuff. ok do this as quad said
boot into windows
see what gpu-z says since it's reading as a fx 3700 if the specs seem right (not gddr59 or something like that) then try some drivers
also uninstall your drivers, boot into safe mode and clean it and start up windows again.
install real drivers. try dox 185.85 -
moo, i think that you should reflash and try to update the drivers manually.... I am sure you know how to do that, if not pm me and i will tell you how... if it is reading as the 3700, i thnik there is a chance they are not lasered...
-
Wait so if you enable the 9400m in the bios then boot on battery i was wondering if both cards are actually in the device manager even though on battery it only uses the 9400m.
-
some body link a Dox driver for me i'll be back time to fore flash again

Yeah I've got to agree with bjrebo, I think we are making some progress here, as a 280M is the same as the Quadro FX 3700M, both are running with 128 stream processors, and 1GB of vram, so maybe they didn't laser them, if its reading it as a 3700M, we just need to get some good drivers on there, and then have a look at it with GPU-Z and see what is going on there SP wise.

these are the ones people were having liuck with i believe... -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
do you really think if it reads fx 3700, it chance of it reading all 128SP is high?

whats the advantage of a dox driver over nvidia's?
maybe thats what i need -
dox are geared toward gamers, there are many things that programs negate on purpose that other programers can fix/change to improve perfomance. dox is prob a programer and has edited the drivers...
-
look guys im on the 9400m right now
In BIOS hybrid SLI is on its the only way to boot up
So these drivers have to work with the 9400m....or i need the INF to a 280 ...and i'll try the have disk -
Megacharge Custom User Title
If I remember correctly wasn't there a driver released recently that worked decently Hybrid SLI?
-
So what do want someone to do for you moo ? get you a 280inf ?.
-
-
Cool man now break out the GPUZ
.
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
Nice, can't wait to see the GPU-Z info, I need to be up for work at 8am, its 2:14 am right now, I've been staying up just for this.
-
its working
good news or bad news? -
Bad news first of course , couldnt have it any other way. or was that not a question at all lol.
-
shaders are laser-ed
but hey a nice overclock
I have a Nvidia 280 GTX though
went through semi hell to make this work
i gotta try to get hybrid working -
Megacharge Custom User Title
Argh, so I guess they did cut those 16 SP's, darn
anyways +rep for this.
-
Well thats cool atleast you got the clocks out of it . now i would run some benchmarks etc and check for artifacting etc. Still though good work man. Nice way to take one for the team and still have a working machine when all is said and done.
-
yea problem is getting it to run in Hybrid SLI
-
.
-
that stinks... oh well, i guess we all knew there was only a 1 percent chance they wouldnt be. i just ordered my m17x with dual 280's, so i will be joining the benching soon...(i hope) thanks moo...
-
im runnign on the 9400 by default
-
Love the new sig btw lol. -
Megacharge Custom User Title
I guess we can call these flashed cards the unofficial GTX 270M, lol nice, I'm going to have dual GTX 270M's.
-
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
Hmm I think when I get my M17x I may literally change the names of my cards to GTX 270M, just for fun and uniqueness.
-
im having trouble with this
see if a fresh driver install will work
Nvidia driver program won't run
"we could not find any compatible hardware"
Since i flashed the card its looking for a 260 ...and im on the 9400m ... but i have access to both cards...
I'll try to disable the 9400m and see if that forces the 270m GTX to run -

Okay, I leave for about three hours and seven new pages come up, haha.
TL;DR. Can someone update me on what has been going down other than The_Moo™'s card, haha. I'm a touch buzzed again. -
Soviet I successfully flashed the card but i can't boot running on the 280 alone???

Okay, time to lay down the law. The 16 shaders that you all seek are physically disabled on the GTX 260M. They are technically "there," but they're just "dead." Unless any of us know how to use the magic that Nvidia's knows, we will never be able to access those 16 additional shaders.
I don't get the point of flashing a GTX 260M with a GTX 280M BIOS. That's the lazy way of overclocking a GTX 260M when one could just change the values in NiBiTor. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
The_Moo™. Have you tried blind flashing the original BIOS onto your fubared GTX 260M?
-
i can't boot i never pass post
Since NVflash is reading it as a FX 3700 i think some how the wrong tags are getting assigned and the M17x BIOS doesn't support the FX 3700 so it won't boot .... if i can fix that tag in the BIOS i should be good -
if im trying to flash 260 to 280 i have to force flash -
Megacharge Custom User Title
It will probably just be better to re-flash to the 260M bios and just adjust voltage settings and over clock via NiBiTor.
260m GTX flashing thread (need some people :p )
