What I want to see though is 4870s.

Looks like I'm getting the M17 instead of the M17x.I want the 17x because it looks awesome, but I want awesome ATI Cards.Does this release mean 4870s for the M17x are near?

Well of Course these are GDDR3, they are 4850s.Now since these new 4850s are 1GB, this means it's a competitor for the GTX 280.I want to see which is faster.(I'm going with ATI cards either way. )I would assume the GTX 280M is definitly faster(but only by a couple fps), now if it was a GDDR5 4870 that would be different.

 

I am getting happy...sadly I already have a whitebook, which just went up for sale! haha

It will be interesting if these cards end up in the M17x and not the much sought after DDR5 cards everyone is salivating over.

 

Well it doesn't matter to me because I'm going with ATi cards either way.

I'm just happy that now I can get a decent ATI card from Alienware without going with sucky 3870s.

 

I should be able to get 1 set of cards....Since i still have a M17

No i know about the MxM but they can easily be adapted for MxM3.0b much like the 280s come in both flavors .

Well you could always buy one second hand and have the owner order the cards for you but then the price of the machine will skyrocket and youll be better off ordering new at that point.

Sure does and im very happy for them actually They have waited so long for this news . hopefully whitebook owners somehow can find a way to get the cards as well since they waited even longer.

The 4850 give 100% boost over the 3870's

 

I'm sure they had to change the heatsink/fan design a bit for these, or it will be throttling. I've seen Don's pics of the 3870s cooking...

 

I'm with this guy.

Though Moo is right, these cards really do give nearly a 100% boost over 3870.A 1GB 4850 will rape, kill, and burry a 3870.

 

$1900 out the door for a stock ram/cpu/hdd config with CF 4850 and 1920 x1200... not too shabby.

 

So did anyone call them to ask the cost?

Don's Temps were always higher then mine i never broke past 84 while gaming ...thats with stock thermal paste

 

what a waste of server space. m17 owners are lucky there upgraded to the 4850. this was suppose to be released for ocz. but failed and now 8 months later it came out. ALOT OF PEOPLE GAVE UP ON THIS.

i think so. but they could of also undervolted it using less voltage which can be a performance problem. but if they didn't change it then it's all good. cause project freeze fixed this

hopefully you can flash the bios. i know not all 3870's can do this.

Lol. my system was always in normal to hot conditions. i never had a cooler and i didn't do any cooling mods til about a week before i sold it.

woah you are right. it may be bit a more when you add the cpu. but no problems so this is a big step for arima and the m17.


i guess it's back in my recommendation for notebook buyers.

 

Thing is, M17x with sli 260M, 1920 x 1200, and 4GB RAM is only 350 more. So about 300 more gets you the new chassis (love it or hate it, its solid).

260M vs 4850 is a wash...

because if dont own a m17 then they won't sell to you

 

I was never a big fan of the M17 chasis(owned a 9750) so for me the new design alone is worth the premium.

But like I said above, I want the new chassis of the M17x but I want ATI cards though....

Oh, and a 4850 will smoke a GTX 260M.Now a GTX 280M will definitly beat a 4850 IMO.
