hrm get the M17 with 4850s or the new, sexy looking M17x and settle for 260s...?
Well if 4850 = 260s I gotta go with the M17x
-
You save big money upgrading the CPU, RAM, HDD on your own.
As I said before, 4850 = 260M. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
well that's not even it. if the older m17 onwers can upgrade for the same price or maybe a 100 dollar increase then it's well worth it.
but it now confuses people because of the fact there are two notebooks from alienware plus the ocz bios for the m17
-
OMG! I'm so exited right now. Do I have to send in the computer to get the graphic cards changed?
-
It's well worth it for older m17 owners but not for those looking for a new notebook.
-
Call and find out
.
-
As i said here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5086326&postcount=150
391.33 euro for a master and a slave card in Europe and you dont need to send your laptop in.
Sounds good
.

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
think about it
you are on a a tight budget.
you may prefer ati because you may of had a nvidia card before(me)
you see the 4850 and you see that ati says it uses the desktop cards for your getting almost the same performance.
what would you do???????
(remember right now the 4870 isn't released for the m17x) -
So what does 391.33 euros break down to in US dollars ?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Lol. i was waiting for someone to ask this as well.
-
If you are on a tight budget and getting a new notebook, you wouldn't consider an Alienware. The name alone is costing you a pretty penny. While I like the competitiveness and powerful GPUs from ATI, nVidia still has better driver support. You can just go to the main website and get the latest driver without hassle. Once AMD/ATI fixes that, then I won't have any reservations about choosing them. Of course, I agree for those who want to upgrade, this is a good choice, but otherwise, there are plenty of other (and better) options IMO.
edit: the Euro is 1.4 ish USD, so $560 USD roughly. -
550$
1.35 is the ratio where i am now -
just because they release more drivers doesn't mean its better ......
-
So who shall be the first chap to call and get theirs replaced so we can see benchmarks of these. Any guesses on the vantage scores? or 3dmark06
-
i told everyone lol...
-
Well you can't compare US and EU prices...everything is very overpriced here in Europe.
Alienware.com shows 400 dollars fo the upgrade. -
ugh the same as the W90p ?
Duh ?l
only difference is the Vram -
Sager, MSI ASUS
no thanks
i think m17 has much better built quality (even though i never touched one
)
-
tht is upgrade price not stand alone
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
that's alot but the you can sell the 3870's and you'll be good.
also if you are on a budget you search you just don't factor out aleinware/sager or what notebook because of it's price. you factor out components that you don't need or that you can upgrade. -
LMAO
Flextronics makes this not AW -
Sorry moo! was just curious...damn cows.
Hows the wait for the m17x going? few more hours? -
what about the design of m9750
is this a coincidence -
Theres gonna be alot of 3870s for sale
These could actually work in the M9750 as well so not sure how many of those owners are going to want to upgrade to the 3870s if the 4850s work.
If i owned a set of 3870s they would be in the For sale section already
.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
me to. Lol. i wonder about whitebook owners????
-
LMAO Alienware doesn't make it either Flextronics does ...AW just paints it
-
problem is you HAVE to be a alienware customer. they will not sell these out to anyone who wants them from what they are telling me, you have to provide your account and system info to order them
-
do they need your m17 to do the upgrade or do they send the cards to you
-
Yes but there could always be a back door in through Dell .
-
Correct, had to provide all this over the phone.
-
yay
And its standard AW ... they have these exclusive they want it that way -
You can just order them from what someone else said and they ship them out.
-
I disagree, nVidia has better support on average in games (check out any GPU review) than ATI and their driver updates are one of their strengths. Older GPUs can still be very powerful thanks to good drivers.
-
If its infact the only way to get them then there will be alot of unhappy whitebook owners that is for certain
.
-
you think i don't know that more games are built on Nvidia ?
I am just saying just because they release more drivers doesn't mean they are better -
Something's telling me this all we are going to get.Think about it:
M17 GPU Options:
1 3870
2 3870s
2 4850s
M17x GPU Options:
1 GTX 260
2 GTX 260s
2 GTX 280s
see the similarities?
M17 might still just be the ATi flagship and all we get are 4850s.Notice how the GPU options are setup exactly like the M17x. You can get 1 lower end GPU, 2 lower end GPUs, or 2 Higher End GPUs.4850s may be all we get! -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
why are you still taking garbage about this. you just said that the 4850's are crap and the 4870 is where it's at and now your saying the ati sucks and it's all about nvidia?????? make up your mind. -
sorry for offtopic
what was that coupon for freeshipping -
I wonder if I could put one in my m15x.
-
Nah there will be more upgrade options for the M17x without a doubt, that much you can bank on. The machine just came out lol
.
-
It should fit , not sure about the heatsink layout though.
-
I think he is saying that ATi sucks in general unless its a GDDR5 4870.Thats what it sounds like to me.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
the chances is yes but the heat maybe the problem
yup. this is it for the m17 and those mxm sockets. but it's the best out for that socket. (i wonder if the sager can fit these. lol. JK.)
it seems so to me aswell. but i don't think he owned a recent ati or have been up to date on what's going on. -
yea should fit
-
I dont think the 9262 chipset supports Crossfire but its worth looking into
.
-
Don't put words in my mouth. I never said the 4850 are crap, I just said their release to me isn't significant (since I don't own a M17 and if I were to get a new notebook I wouldn't consider the M17 as I have other choices that are equally as good or better from nVidia). Only when the 4870 w/ GDDR5 comes out will I be excited to see how they fare against the GTX 280. So go stuff a sock in it.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
the pcx is a nvidia one so i don't think so as well. when i sold my whitebook i wanted to try the 3870's but i was a day to late.
-
IMO no need to post then you haven't been in limbo for a year
@ Don .... i can get the cards.... -
Come on fellas no need to get hostile were just trying to have a nice discussion here.
-
