    I also bet that there is a mobo mod and perhaps a cooling modification. That's precisely why I never bought it with the 3870s. Not to mention that the 4000 series cards should have been available months ago.

    they didn't have them untill 4/08/09

    And they would not release them while they were preparing for the M17x launch

    there are STILL no modifications needed to run these cards in an arima w840di.....why do so many people have a hard time understanding this....the issue with them is driver support, nothing else. Not the cooler, not the motherboard.

    Thought marshall already showed they work in the machine so why would people still be specualting on stuff that has already been proven ?.

    Until the dust settles, and a few folks have them installed and working, we'll continue to see the speculation.

    I foresee another month maybe 2, because AW/Dell is a little slow on the business side and whoever is evaluating the new sales for the 4850s is probably going to say "we need more information before we can justify releasing this product as upgrades" when they should already see the trend of who is buying the M17 and who is buying the M17X. If the m17 sales are dropping i doubt adding new cards, that while are good may not match the performance of SLI 280's in the M17X, will help boost sales to topple or come even with the M17x. So the M17X is the new flagship model, if people have money to spend, and I'm sure they do because they are buying an AW, who would want to buy an older system with less of an ability to upgrade? The only people buying AW atm are the well off because lets face it we are in a recession

    We know the sales of the M17 are shrinking because A) new cards released, B) price drop. If sales were still strong on the M17 they would have waited on releasing new cards to give the system a boost.

    I suspect we will hear more information in the next two weeks, however i could be wrong.

    I think the two cards will make a very big difference in sales. We already know of many people selling their M17 for an M17x for one main reason: the graphics.

    Dual 4850 cards bring the graphics performance of the M17 up to that of dual 260Ms, even to as high as 280Ms in some games.

    Looking at the astronomical difference in price for two similar configurations (In the UK, the difference is now well above £600! And that's assuming that 4850s are equal to 260Ms, not 280Ms.)

    Anyone who knows about this graphics similarity...let's just say they'll realise that unless they need the very best in the way of the 280Ms, they're making a killer saving buying an M17 with 4850s over an M17x with 260Ms. Even considering the other M17x benefits (style to some, AlienFX, E2E screen, 9400M, better quad support) that doesn't equal hundreds of pounds/dollars, and the M17 has its own advantages (thinner, lighter, bigger battery, actually can be ordered now with a 1920x1200 screen unlike the M17x for some reason) which will well push it for some.

    Has anyone already sold their AW thats still under warrenty? I'm looking to maybe offload my pretty new M17 and it has a 3 year warrenty on it and I was wondering how or if that transfers if I sold it to somebody.

    Just to add my ten pence;

    I firmly believe that Alienware are not going to give us the 4850s as an upgrade and have more than a few reasons for believing this.
    Im not saying its a hardware thing, after all you guys know more about than me.

    I stand by what I believe and I hope to god Im not proved right.

    Of course they will offer it as an upgrade, look at their previous models. When a new card came out that was able to be physically upgraded what did they do? they allowed owners to buy them and install them.

    The ASUS W90Vp have Dual 4870X2
    ("ASUS announced the W90 has been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the fastest notebook. The system scored 20324 3DMarks in 3DMark05.
    ASUS W90 achieved an unprecedented 3DMark06 score of 20324 at a recent overclocking gathering in Norway)

    Whats the Bench nos should we expect with Dual 4850x2 ?

    Will we still be able to Upgrade after 4850 in m17 ?

    let me just get this right Lord-vader;

    Alienware have got your M17 now and are doing the 4850 upgrade from 3870s??

    is this correct and if so....have you spoke to them lately? is everything going ahead as planned?

    I would be grateful if you could clarify....I though they cancelled the upgrade orders!

    Saw those scores, nice, although card is misleading......should really be a single and multi GPU category haha.

    And are you gonna get the single PCB 295's? They should be easier to watercool right? Since a "regular" waterblock now instead of the sandwich method? (VERY nice system in your sig btw......wish I was funded that well haha)

    thanks Julian, I too dont believe that there are any driver issues from Alienwares side or else they would not be selling them as an option for the M17, I just believe we are not getting them as an upgrade for other reasons!

    we shall see no doubt!

    @ Johnkss

    Well you went all out lol. I got about a month left on my 2 GTX 275 and will probably not utilize the step up (not the end of the world haha). I will still be recovering financially from the m17x I am ordering tomorrow.

    And my first comment was in regards to a Desktop. Mobile will be one gpu per pcb for a while still (at least one would think?).

    edit: With some work, I MAY be able to catch your single card (GTX 295) score with my dual GTX 275.....but that would be a lot of work.
    Here is where I stand now (GTX 275 only OC to match GTX 285 and that's it):
    http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dmv=1205162

    Haven't tried to push the CPU further (I aint got a D0 like you do). But not bad for a mATX box hehe ;)

    No need to flash the cards. The DNA 9.4 and 9.5 drivers work flawlessly and have the bonus of a tweaked CCC, like the crossfire tab and other bits and bobs. Already spoke to author and a 9.7 is due for release by them shortly. AW can keep their crap drivers. No going back for me.
