http://cgi.ebay.com/2-4850-laptop-g...raphics_Video_TV_Cards_TW?hash=item439bb84a21 -
Wow that was a good price less than 600$ per pair. good find !
-
Those are Kcuk's cards i believe
..
-
kcuk had gave up on M17 as well?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
DAMMMMM
I would buy those right now (well try, hate auctions.....always prefer buy it now for the closure) if I still had my whitebook! -
No he just got an extra pair to sell..
I suggested he start the bid at what he paid for them and see how high it will go since people were speculating they will sell for as much as $900.00 ?...
Either way he will get his money back im sure... -
...
Maybe you should sell some stuff and get an M17 ..
In some ways i still like the M17 more then my M17x but if i am spending $900.00 on a set of cards it will be the 4870s for this machine and ill sell my 280s to help off set the cost... -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
well that is where I am as well, might as well just get the 4870s and enjoy the better looks and better cooling.
-
cant you do like sager allowed me to do...upgrade your gpus, since the 4870's seem to be an upgrade?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
probably, but cant afford it until I sell this desktop
the 4870s are pretty much why I decided I dont need a desktop anymore haha -
-
He is a very lucky guy indeed...
Im sure someone will scoop them up from him but at what cost will be the most interesting part..
-
It's a good business strategy LOL, just get a pair from Alienware and sell to those that are yelling for them for high price. It's 450USD a pair from Alienware and if you're able to sell it for 700 which is not hard considering that they are rare and you could easily earn 250USD straight off.
-
That I known there's no 4850 with 1gb. if you see in the website it's 2x512 so 2x4850 = 1gb.
Anyway I would appreciate if anyone could point me out some notebook models that also use a 4850. -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
-
they ahve been there for 2 days and still noone bided i guess you guys are all lacking $
-
and they can get 15% off.
-
BTW,
I just received an e-mail from that Alibaba.com seller;
HD 4850 short supply.
How about 4570?
Payment: paypal, t/t, westunion, creditcard.

Best Regards,
Just FYI.
I would bid on Kcuk cards as he is also in the UK but I wouldnt pay more than
that starting bid....£400 max. -
also, these are obviously his older cards as they are showing as used.
How did he get another set of cards.?? -
Ive just put a £350 bid on those cards of KCUKs. Lets see how desperate people are to get these cards.
-

Just so I can try my hand at this crap shoot, what is the best number to call to pester Alienware here in the US?

-
Yeah the 4850s are 1gig each, not combined ...
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
I can confirm the 4850s I had were 1GB per card models.
512MB crossfire would be a little more limited (as you would only have 512MB usable, not 1GB) -
there is no way the alienware ones are 512 mines are 1gb to
-
Fingers crossed that I get these cards on Ebay anyway! I cant afford to go much higher really.
Im hoping its just a bad time(christmas) for people to be buying GPUs. -
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
Yeah, good luck mate. If mine hadn't had issues and Id not faced the true wrath of alienware support I'd have been happy as a pig in mud with mine. Despite whats said theres really not a lot between those cards with a decent CPU and the Nvidia GTX280Ms, I actually think in some ways crossfire was better (I've seen a lot of shadow SLI bugs).
Stilll...you know me, Im gonna be after the MXM3.0b 5870s and reenter the crossfire fold...those 5870 mobiles are looking mighty tasty -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
mobile 5870s will absolutely have my attention, as long as they are true to the 5870 core, and not some gimped mobile version *cough* nvidia *cough*
ATI also has MUCH better driver support right now for mobile platforms -
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
Which is bizarre, often I'll be honest its the other way round and mobility modder is the way forward, I've had 2 systems where that's been the case. Theres a lot of people talking about them over in the Clevo forums, the only knowledge I've seen so far that is absolutely solid in that ATI released it is that these shouldn't be cutdown (well not the 58 series chips anyway) in that they'll have the full comparative shader count (so 1600 for the 5870), be DX11 compliant, have onboard HDMI output with HD Audio codec support.
Oh and be fast. Problem for Nvidia right now is that Fermi is obviously having issues, and GT200 is expensive for them to produce, so they're between a rock and a hard place for new high end parts for laptops, especially with TSMC's supply issues, but ATI at least pretty much have the core ready, they just need to set the exact power consumption, and tweak the clocks for power consumption.
Can't wait to get hold of em, they should be beasts if some of the rumours are true. Crossfire may well be on the level of a desktop 5870 and then a little extra...plenty fast enough for me -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
well given we can already accomplish the power of roughly a desktop GTX 275/285 or an ATI 4890 in a laptop, I would say that is pretty good. There will also be the issue in having the 5870 because it ONLY uses GDDR5 unlike the 4000 series which could be GDDR5 or GDDR3. AW found out that GDDR5 in a laptop GPU was not feasible thus the GDDR3 4870s. They said it was too hot and would cost much more. To make up for the heat they would have to downclock it to GDDR3 performance anyways and still cost more.
-
DDR 5 runs cooler and draws less power
it's called covering their rectum -
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
I was about to say, and from reading up a while ago it's true. Cost and availability are the issues with GDDR5, nothing else.
Alienware are lying [nasty name], they're just trying to cover thier backs to make it look like they HAD to go GDDR3.
GDDR5 with low timings would only have needed to go at about 450-500Mhz to keep up with the GDDR3...who do they think they're kidding to say that would draw much more power or heat. Damn things would be cooler! -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
eh, well, time will tell
I am still hoping for 5870m's with GDDR5 do not get me wrong -
All the people claiming these cards would sell for SOOO much and only 1 bid thus far lol... To funny....
-
what's the saying? money talks and bullcrap walks?
-
No it's saying every one doesn't know about mxm
They don't want used cards with no warranty
every one sold theirs
They don't know their on eBay -
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
That and most people wait until right before the end to bid. Which is why I hate eBay auctions
-
I do have to say I am considering it. While I understand most bid at the end, it still seems odd that there's been ONE bid in nearly a week is it?
I might just grab myself the pair if I can. -
Had i not grabbed another M17x 2 days before Kcuk said he had them i would have jumped on them because i was trying for quite sometime to get a pair as well but gave up in the end and of course then he has an extra pair for sale lol..
Somethings are meant to be and others are not ... Tis life... -
The good news is I'd be sticking to my 1440x900 screen so I could quite literally play ANYTHING maxed out smoothly.
Except Need for Speed Shift, which has crap optimisation and runs worse on any ATi graphics cards than it would on the Nintendo Wii. (Which ironically uses an ATi graphics card...lol...) -
Rename your EXE to GRID and let me know if you see a performance boost
...
-
I suppose it's to make the graphics cards think that it's making frames for GRID loading a different xfire profile of sorts? -
Its true what you guys were saying about money talking and BS walking....all this; wow these cards will go for a grand nonsense.
I do get narked off with all the wild speculation.
But if someone does jump in with a wild bid then I will be even more p**sed.
These cards are my early Christmas present.
On a side note I hope KCUK is not selling these cards for personal reasons relating to all those job losses in the steel industry in his neck of the woods.
that would be sad. -
lol no bud thats middlesbrough im 40 miles north of that
-
Oh I see! bad news though mate!
-
Man, someone should post this on the NFS Shift forums. (Can't be bothered myself, hehe) -
I find Need for Speed Shift runs awesome on the M17 even at max settings.
Perhaps its fixable.
good luck. -
Do you run it with crossfire on or off? It runs awesome on my machine now at max settings as well, but I'm just wondering.
4850's Finally out for the m17
