It should be using the GRID crossfire profile .. So its strange you say its not using crossfire...
Glad its running smoother though..

There is one more problem though Quad and don't know if you can help me with it, but...
Basically at times on the track I go over a certain area of road, or sometimes if I crash into one certain section of barrier (at ANY speed) then one or both of my front wheels 'break' and go nuts, turning my car into a bucking bronco so to speak. You can see the wheel coming out of the top of the car...It's frustrating because I can't get any further in the game without sorting this issue out.
thanks if you can help. And the crossfire thing, I think it DOES run smoother, but the problem is the microstuttering is really crazy, it's so jumpy. So I just run it without. -
does that problem happen even before you changed the EXE name ?...
They released a patch for the game or should have released one that i know is fixing issues with the game but i have not played it in a few weeks so i am not certain but you might want to look in to it..
Also go to Guru3d.com and in the forums go to the ATI drivers section and look for some of the beta drivers that are supposed to address SHIFT specifically as ATI has been working on some for the game .. Might get a better idea of the problems your having as well... -
yeah always using Crossfire.
The reason I had to add my ten pence is because I think its one of my best playing games in terms of graphics.
I did not even know about re-naming the EXE to GRID but I might just have to do that.
cheers. -

Getting some nasty stuttering with this QX9300 in GTA: Vice City. I've heard this stutter does NOT happen with the X9100. Is this true?
-
Yes this is true because the X9100 is only a dual core.
The X9100 is good but runs hot. Thats what myself and many others have noticed. Games very well though. -
TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
Hmmm. Out of sheer curiosity, would it be a dumb idea to offer a straight-across trade of my QS QX9300 for an X9100 in the marketplace? I cannot stand this stuttering. And nothing helps it. Folks have claimed that it has something to do with the sound driver. That didn't do anything. Others have claimed that it's a heat issue with the northbridge. I have a custom-made cooler for my laptop, the NB never gets above 70C. I have been mulling through any related threads trying to see if someone found a magic cure, but it's to no avail. I'm now reading that Dell/Alienware don't plan on doing diddly about it. Vice City is not a graphically demanding game, but I can't even watch a cut scene without the stuttering.
-
I would definitely go in that direction. Im sure to most people the QX9300 seems more valuable, that is unless you are an M17 owner. In which case the X9100 is the best possible processor.
Although If you search the forum for stuttering issues with the QX9300 in GTA you will see its not un-common.
good luck. -

I'll throw out a worm in the marketplace and see what I get. I'm playing GTA Vice City, BTW. Nothing in comparison to the demands of GTA IV.
-
Getting a tiny piece of copper added to the Northbridge helped me alot and i only had stutter every once in a while and i could alt tab to fix it..
There never was any magic cure fix though sadly...
Trading the CPU you might be able to do just not in the marketplace since there is no Selling/Trading of any ES/QS CPUs allowed anymore on NBR...
So you might just try to PM someone who has an X9100 and ask them if they were interested .. -
Is it a OEM QX9300?
-
TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
No. I didn't have the $900 at the time for the retail. It's a QS. It serves me very proudly. Runs at 3.2Ghz all day long. I game heavily, and if the X9100 doesn't ever stutter, I'm getting one somehow.

Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
the cooper mod is not better than ic diamond compound you can try both
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
-
The copper is to fill the large gap the Qx9300 creates.. Compound may or may not be enough
.. I used both myself and rarely stuttered..
As for the ES/QS CPUs they are rock solid as i owned one as well and no difference then OEM except for the price before the HP deal came along that is... -
TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
Hey Quadzilla, just to bring you up to speed. I've already got a QS QX9300, and I WTT it for an X9100. Too much stuttering.
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
es/qs are the same you know that quad but oem has better resale price
-
Lets face it not everyone knows the truth about them ... -
Or you could get a T9800. It has similar processor speed without the heat issues.
just a thought. -
TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
Oh yes. There is a ton of controversy surrounding the non-retail CPUs. I researched it a lot before I ever hit the 'buy' button.

Agreed, thats what Im thinking.
Surely they cant be hundreds of people waiting for the last few minutes of the auction.
Its looking good for a win.
Always keep some in reserve though. -
I am awaiting a call from from my lawyer regarding the fact that Alienware has mislead me with the GPU upgrades this summer (yes i am still battling Alienware/Dell).
If the news is good then i am happy.
If the news is bad and they can't help me fight Alienware/Dell, then ill just give myself a X-MAS present and start bidding on KCUKs cards on ebay.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I see those cards being popular
-
Auction is getting up there.
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
i wonder if some one is going to pay $1000
-
Time to call AW to get a pair to sell, lol!
-
not that popular....its only me and and the other guy on here bidding for them. But Im out now!
-
The price they are at now is how much I paid for my M17, lol.
-
Guess they are mine then?
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
-
Lol thats awesome and i bet ken is happy
...
-
Well i've been fighting AW for months now in regards to these cards together with my law insurence agency.
In the end they informed me that they might have a chance in order to undo my sale but it would take along time and in the end ill be left with no machine.
So they suggested to give me $500 as compensation.
The only way to get these cards is from ebay...i will try and sell my 3870's and use the $500 i got and pay for the 4850's.
Prolly gonna cost me some cash extra but hell..it's that or nothing and the upgrade should be great.
Sorry Tony for outbidding you!
-
we shall see quad bud its all good putting bids in... ill wait till its finsihed lol
feel like pulling the other two out of me laptop and going on huge bender with the proceeds -
if you want be to bump it up some for you let me know.

Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!

-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
-
Can you run two master 4850 card in crossfireX mode? is it easy to flash master 4850 to slave 4850?
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
-
Thanks for the quick reply but what exactly does a slave card do? why did they even care to put different bios is those card while you can just run 2 masters? Guess I could tell Alienware my single 4850 is defective and ask for a replacement and then sell it for 1k? LOL ^^
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
