Electrosoft, now you will have to edit your sig and make sure that it says Mobility 4850![]()
And for those interested, here is the link where the quote is from, mid page:
Story is here
I will add that the Card used in this article had 512 MB of ram, the AW ones will be 1GB each, so I am excited.

i wonder what the lead time on them is -
Hey could someone find out in terms of upgrading current M17s if AW will ship them out to you or you have to send the notebook in? (the answer may have been posted but I'm too lazy to look through 15 pages to find it...lol.) And how much is the upgrade?
M9750 owners are going to be very pleased if we can keep our 3870s...(As a word of advice to M9750 owners if I were you I'd be checking eBay a lot from now...lol)
-
They said you can just place the order and install yourself from what others have posted.
M9750 owners could potentially upgrade to the 4850s as wellproblem will be actually getting hold of the cards (same with Whitebook owners).
-
As for the second statement...mhhm. Now is a time to be glad that you bought the whitebook from Alienware, and not from anyone else -
Omfg Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, make no doubt about it. For original owners of m17's, this is a God send. It basically brings your rig into the playing field of all the 4850/4870/260/280 rigs that are and will be out there.
For 2nd hand m17 owners (unless the original owner is willing to help), 840 chassis owners, I feel bad for you.
Make no doubt about it, the 4850 packs some heat. -
DO you have to call to order? or can u order them online?
-
oh yus its going to kick
just got to wait for them to release them as an upgrade kit -
10 char -
Do you have to send the laptop in or can you have them send it out so you can upgrade yourself?
-
But yea, I feel bad for any W840i owners that aren't first-hand M17 owners...lol -
Evil u from the uk? -
$450.00 US was what someone was quoted when calling , id say thats a heck of a deal for 2 cards. -
They wouldnt release them if the temps are that bad. But i definitely feel this is a god send hehe, i mean this rocks! Imma a soooo happy, my laptop no longer feels so far behind everyone else, instead I feel like i will finally be able to best my friend desktop MUAHAHAHAHAAH!
-
Its 400 bucks on the main page US. I'm on the phone with tech support right now, trying to order them AHHHHH! I'm on hold
-
OMFG BULL, they told me they are waiting for the stock to stablize and there fore only offering it for new systems, they will over it as an upgrade path in 15-30 days.... GAAAAAAAAH I HATE YOU AW!
-

-
Oh.. I've just see you have 1440x900 panel as this panel don't have the scaling issue. ppl who use WUXGA panel will got the scaling issue.

This Is The Best Day Of My Life!!!!!!!!!

Can Alienware PLEASE release the God damn GDD5 4870s? With these 4850s for M17 its now killing me that there are no GDDR5 4870s in sight. They could atleast give us an option to put the 1GB 4850s in the M17x.
-
They Are Not Offering These As An Upgrade Yet, I Was Told By A Supervisor That It May Be 15-30 Days Before An Upgrade Path Is Released
-
from what i am told today there will be no 4870's for the m17 only the 4850's now.
-
What we want to know is when the M17x is getting the God damn GDDR5 4870s. -
wrong thread for that Panzer
no 17x lovers here -
Whoo-hoo! And this will allow me to install my 3870's in my M9750. (hopefully).
Now I have to actually read this thread and see if you guys found out pricing for the cards outright. -
..always wondered -
I think he had a problem with his old GPUs.
-
If I get the 4850's for my M17 and use the 3870's in my M9750, run 3dmark06..........hmmmm, could be some new records for these two rigs at ORB.
@Scytus, cause my primary graphics card on my M9750 died. Got the M17 and then did the oven baking trick on the bad card and it's been good as new ever since. Plus my wife likes to play solitare on it. -
-
Is asimobile gonna bring this upgraded gpu notebook in as a whitebook?
-
they already have it as one
-
EviLCorsaiR,
Ive got a feeling the cards will cost a lot more over here mate!
I am going to take a guess at around £300
Hope Im wrong. I feel very angry at the higher prices we have to pay over here. -
There is a GDDR5 memory chip shortage that extends far beyond the Mobility 4870, and the mobile chips will be last on the priority list. -
Yes it is really annoying prices but it's not THAT bad. -

the question i am asking myself, is how easy would it be to sell the dual 3870s i have right now? and what would be a reasonable price for them...
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
very easy.
do you know how much m9750 owners want this. -
-
should i post my for sale thread in the marketplace forum?
and what would be a reasonable price? -
The M17 with x9100 and the 4850s would be a beast. To bad quad cores dont work well in it. I do want to see some benches though.

MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
SOOO has the fact that in benchmarking the 4850 is almost the same as the 9800gtx been covered? and in actual performance it trails a little behind the 9800GTX
-
they will be on par with the 280's
as tbh for "next gen" the 280's are quite poor -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
The 280's are a testament to the power of the G92 core and to ATI lagging behind for years on the mobile front until recently just now being able to establish parity.
But keeping the 4850's in their proper context, this is a HUGE win for pre-existing, original owners of m17's from AW. It effectively puts the m17 in the same class as the M17X and NP9250 in a much lighter chassis.
4850's Finally out for the m17
