$227 = 227 euro in Europe (or a little bit more :-( ) But this cards are still worth it.

    Here we go guys, especially Pmanuk;

this is a copy and paste from my E-mail reply from Alienware(enjoy)

"Regarding the graphics upgrade, for the M17 there is ATI RADEON M98 1GB HD4850 MASTER for 187.75 GBP each available. They can be replaced by you with a technician on the phone. The crossfire cable should be included with the secondary video card, I will find out whether that is true and have it placed in the notes, so that once you call us to purchase this upgrade, an agent will be able to see it and tell you.
Unfortunately, there is no discount available for this upgrade.

    Thank you for choosing ALIENWARE."

    not a bad price.

Just gave them a call as well (UK). I can verify that the price for both cards is £326 and they said they are going to call me back to tell me about the upgrade paths, if we have to send the laptop in or if they can send us the cards. Will keep you posted.

Looks like guys in the US are having to send their machines back for the upgrade...seems strange that Alienware is running different policies depending on which side of the pond that you live.

Im sure if someone pointed out that the European guys are getting their cards sent to them then perhaps a re-think might be had!! who knows, worth a try!

Good luck, Im sure someone will gladly take you up on that offer!!

How much should we ask on Ebay for our 3870x2?? when I looked on Ebay the other day graphics cards seemed really cheap. It was the first time Ive ever looked at their prices and was quite surprised.

Alienware called me back an hour ago and said that the 4850's will NOT be available as an upgrade on exsisting M17's in the U.S   ..

They stated that they just wanted to call me and clarify the situation regarding the upgrade.

You can only get them on new M17 orders in the U.S. for now. They told me that the new cards have not been tested on exsisting M17's all ready sold.  Not sure if I would buy the 4850's but I would have liked the option at $270 per card, the price they quoted when I first called.

    I am not happy!

I am sure that the rep you just talked to was confused. If they dont offer these to already existing customers they just opened up a $hit storm for themselves with MANY angry customers. (and people like me who need to employ the services of one of their customers - whitebook owner :()

We know that you will often get conflicting answers from Dell/AW reps, read the HDD caddy thread haha

unless the new m17 that are bought with the 4850's have different internals or cooling solution....that may be a reason we wont get the upgrade

Its always mixed messages and no one will truly know till someone actually gets the cards from Alienware.

The people across the pond have not had any of these mixed messages of Sending the machine in or the cards wont work etc. So clearly no one is on the same page lol.
