I'm still trying to figure out how you can even marginally play any games even on lowest settings with a single gtx 460 on 3d mode. What a marking gimmick "Alienware m17x NOW IN 3D!!!111!!oneone! (but can only play games at the lowest resolution/settings possible) They drop everything to jump on the 3D bandwagon but it isn't even feasible....

What am I missing here. Anyone one good with photography? Mandrake? The keyboard looks lit in blue led, yet the reflection is green?

Touchpad seems much improved, I like the new chrome accents at the top and front - IMO it adds a little bit more of eye candy + it makes that new touch-control panel look not so ew...

    no sli with the 460M...

@Above, it's showing the intro video for the M17x, which in that case is currently has a green keyboard M17x in it.

    New M11x with i3-380UM - Sandy Bridge?

That's not a reflection, just take a look a the keyboard layout... it's the wrong way for a reflection (the letters should be upside down)

Edit: it's probably showing a video of the M17x on the screen... confusing.

Do I see a different m11x CPU option? Wouldn't a i3-380UM be slower than a i7 640UM? Another Alienware laptop neft in the works?

Also notice that the USB ports have the standard USB emblem. My USB 3.0 enclosure labels the port as "USB 3.0" I'd be really suprised if the R3 was still not USB 3.0 capable. But I haven't seen anything that says it is USB 3.0 capable. Anyone have info on that? I couldn't imagine releasing a new laptop without 3.USB 3.0

Perhaps they do some stint where they come out with a half-assed M17x at CES and plan on introducing the improved version with USB 3.0 later?

That would make no sense, promoting the lower end system at the biggest consumer electronics exhibition and afterwards selling a better version of it.

For those in UK, what is typical release delay after the US launch?

From the sound of it I'm inclined to get a r2 as the RGB and dual gpu was a key draw. Can't believe I held my breath this long for r3. To be fair waiting to get money I needed too :p

Frightening, last year at ces they bragged about dual graphics and I7.

    Alienware M17x, M15x

The most powerful 17-inch and 15-inch Alienware gaming laptops ever created
The M17x, the most powerful 17-inch gaming laptop in the universe, now offers Intel Core i7 processors combined with dual graphics to deliver extreme frame rates at HD resolutions while maxing out game settings.
The M15x delivers exceptional HD video and audio editing, 3D animation and high-end PC gaming
M17x start at $1,799 and the M15x start at $1,399

Interesting. Perhaps Alienware is making some stealth revisions? Maybe even the screen was improved. I'll be annoyed if the R1 Core 2 Duo is replaced with an i3 since I just bought my R1.

Just wondering: Can anyone at CES check the display on the M11x really quickly? I'm wondering if they did a stealth update to improve the screens they use, if they use Samsung panels in reviews and demos, etc. Just look for the display in Device Monitor, then look at the details, and copy/remember/take a picture of what it says under Hardware ID.

Hmm i'm curious about that CPU change int he m11x. I had heard about the iX X80UM's making their way into the m11x line.

    atm, doesn't england/europe only have the i3-330UM (yes i know it's 330 not 380)

It has to be... they need to get the R1 out of the way now... there will be killer deals on the R1 for a month or two soon. I bought an R1 and was considering an R2 (every game I play happens to be CPU-bound :( ), I'd really like to know if they even CONSIDERED a slightly higher end CPU option.

Anyone know what the OC'ing potential of those processors is?

Does the new M17x R3 have a different trackpad than the R2???

If so, it might be a improvement since everyone says the trackpad of the old version sucks.

This is why Alienware is dying or already been dead. This is Delienware now and not the same Alienware where it use to be a niche product and an enthusiast brand. Now Dell are calling the shots and they are not giving the enthusiast market what they needed.

" Former executives of the original Alienware Pre Dell - Kevin Wasielewski, Richard Cary and Hector Penton"

    "Alienware is truly dead"

I didnt know you could travel back in time

I agree ^ if they sell a couple of hundred or thousand laptops instead of the bucket load of laptop they should be selling maybe they'll do an emergency redesign :D kinda like when Apple called an emergency press conference with the anntenna issue for the iphone 4 but they just gave away free bumpers instead of a emergency change -__- still it was something

There are adapters to connect 3.5mm SPDIF to Optical SPDIF. I know some of my optical cables came with the adapters. I expect the laptop to come with it though.
