Because some times MSI doesn't come through with their claims.

I am not...
I still would love to have more info on that PC but I guess we won't until Monday. I really thought more journalist would cover this or have better access to the machine. -
Shouldn't they release a M15x-R2 first?
-
yeah, im with you! need more hard evidence before i start on the "hate alienware/dell campaign".
-
Also from Ireland.
1. SB is... well, just better. It's faster, and MUCH more power efficient than i7.
2. A 6970 would, if I'm not mistaken, kick the crap out of SLI 285s.
3. I haven't used RBGLED either, but I know that my IPS monitor for my desktop is far better than it's TN counterpart. It looks a lot more rich and vivid.
4. No. In fact, it's worse, as it's slightly smaller. 1920x1080 vs. 1920x1200.
5. 120Hz - feck all, unless you really like the idea of 3D gaming. P67 is the "gaming" chipset for Sandy Bridge.
6. There was a video a page or so back where the guy said something about a soft touch feel, meaning not metal, though it might be still decent. -
I'm with you, oops i did not realize i still have my m17x r2
-
And my M11x-R3 and M13x didn't come... we sound like disappointed kids on Christmas who were SURE they were getting that cool toy we told our parents about for the last three months... and got a new sweater instead
-
a bunch of people in here with AW's and are on a hate campaign.
-
a 6970 gets it's crap kicked by sli285's but it beats sli280's.
Comparison of Laptop Graphics Cards - Notebookcheck.net Tech -
I'll admit now I was wrong about those leaked photos being an M15x....but I may still be right about those scores being a single GPU!
Good thing I placed that bet this morning. -
Everyone is claiming haterade, but lets face it, NO ONE on here was that impressed with todays announcement, despite the fact we all pretty much knew about the R3 already... we just all hoped for an M11x-like surprise... do my current laptops perform like they did before this afternoon? Sure, but I'd hoped to one day replace them with something that was cool AND powerful... not just one of the other generic laptop designs with good power (I won't name names, you know who I am referring to).
I think the majority sense a shift possibly in Dell's handling of Alienware, and a fear that a lowering of standards to mediocrity that eventually just makes the XPS look good is all we have to really expect. Not hate, but disappointment. -
So with 32GB of ram can you "ramdisk" your OS and just about everything else? Probably not, just trying to think how this is a benefit to gamers or anyone for that matter.

M17X R3 is going to be a total failure. Just like the N-gage
-
I'm all for that,
, bye bye alienware, Dual 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480M
-
The actual m15x is considered by many the r2 version, as the actual m17x, the r1 versions where the area-51 legacy systems, the ones before dell launched the actual ones.
-
and to think I already had my Poster and Banners made
I guess everything (at the moment) falls through with the pics leaked couple of weeks ago, I was soo sure that IGPU would be added oh well, hoping something coming within the next few days to jump start everything up again and the world will be back to normal
I swear I read a prophecy about this.......I guess it really is time, 2012 here we come
-
Just the misinformed. Otherwise the M17x-r3 should really be r4 since there was also an Alienware Area-51 m17x.
Dell's line is completely separate from the past AW machines...there is no M15x-r2... -
true, the end of the world starts with this kind of disappointments
-
really has nothing to do with being impressed, but setting ones self up to be unimpressed. that's why i said..wait it out long ago or wake up to a rude awaking.
still, until someone we know and trust has one in their hands.....it's still only speculations.
(allot more to this story, but that would be a waist of time..
)
-
thats true, but for example if you try to buy a MOBO for the actual m15x they sell it to you as a MOBO for a m15x r2 and if you have a m15x area-51 they will sell you a MOBO for a r1, you are right about that but idk why they use that classification method
-
Whatever happened to Darkhan? It would be nice to have him around right about now.
-
That is pretty strange...but it is Dell I suppose lol.
-
I'll agree with that to a point, particularly when speculation gets rampant... I just SO wanted to see a good M13x... but the leaks on the M17x made me pretty sure we weren't going to hear anything (at least not now).
-
I feel bad that, from what we've seen so far, the M17X R3 isn't shaping up to be a good replacement to the R2.
On the other hand, I'm glad I ordered my R2 when I did.
-
I was extremely looking forward to an M11x R3 with R1's battery life and an i series or sandy bridge processor.
Huge disappointed to me. I'm not in the market for desktop replacement laptops; I already have an i7/gtx260 desktop. All I want is a small laptop with great battery life, good looks, and powerful enough for on the go tasks. M11X has more than enough mobile graphics for me, but the processor was too weak for my needs.
Bleh... I guess I'll just import a Acer 3820TG from Canada or wait for a refresh of the Macbook Pro 13. -
Does anyone have an educated guess on what the battery life will be?
gtx460m vs 6970? -
Just hope they don't discontinue the current m17x, otherwise if i ever need a replacement they will downgrade me to that piece of crap
-
Most likely they will continue selling the R2 for 6 months to a year from now. The R1 was available until recently.
-
the least Dell can do for us is release new drivers for the 5870s
-
nope
10 char -
Apparently no... that's what we're all whining about
But you can just get the current M15x and put a 5870m in it, works great!
Edit: see here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m15x/474717-m15x-ati-5870-mod.html -
Apparently not, just a crappy anorexic version of the current m17x
-
Well, Dell/Alienware only announced the new M17x R3 today at CES(which is more like a downgrade)... so don't expect a new M15x anytime soon.
The 5850m is an underclocked 5870m, you can overclock it easily to 5870m speeds.
-
I smell the hate and the pichforks in the air!
-
So, when is this thing actually being released? The 10th?
-
Yes, the M17x R3 should be available on the 10th. At least in the states.
-
Im sure we will see more hardware options after it goes up for sale. It said Most Powerful Laptop during CES, hope it really is fast enough to topple the Clevo X7200.
-
Why is no one considering a rubber coated metal surface? I've seen it on devices before, wouldn't surprise me on a M17X.
-
or carbon fiber
and even if they came back to the soft touch material if it's the same as the area-51 m17 (no X) has it's preatty solid and qualitie -
well, if you can OC' a 2920xm in M17X-R3 to beat an OC'ed 990X in X7200, then yes, it will be fast enough.
-
When the R3 comes out, Anyone want to rent there system to me (as long as it's under dell warranty) for some benchmarking??
-
and the m17x gpu doesn't even compete with the SLI 480's that clevo has.
-
Wait wait. Is there any solid proof SLI or CFX isn't coming out now?
-
Just add a third one to your collection.
-
no, but it's not out yet. It's not the fastest computer now if it doesn't have SLI or XF now.
-
If I was still in Iraq, no doubt I'd do it for a few days, and consider keeping the R2 or selling, otherwise the fiance might be mad lol. For now I'll sit and enjoy my system and watch the benching from the sidelines.
-
I think the real question is if the option will be available day 1.
-
So should we sue Dell for false advertising if no CFX and then get it to settle - they pay nothing, we get a better M17x R4 in February 2010.
-
It would take at least one year to sue them.
