That's some long 40 hours... I am ready to buy, I have the funds and the will. I just hope I won't be deceived by a 16:9 screen. The scores that Joker showed for the 6000M series are quite impressive for stock numbers.

I came in just AFTER all the CES event's last year with a decision to get a laptop... was the M11x a "surprise" at CES or was it a well known release going in?

It was a surprise. It wasn't even leaked before the announcement.

AW released a survey months before about creating a sub-12" gaming notebook. It wasn't a total shocker.

Anyway, I'd say that it's likely Alienware will build off of the success that discounted M11x systems achieved by having a $600 model with a revised chassis and new screen, but with a ULV Core 2 Duo or the current ULV Core i5. The Sandy Bridge model will be $800. Hopefully.

It wasn't a surprise to me, I got to play with the M11x prototype at AW headquarters in Miami :D Wish I still lived there and could visit again.

Hmm where's Dell on that list?

I don't see Alienware or Dell on that list. On another CES note, Reese's has been teasing something they're unveiling at CES. What the heck could it be?

" On the gaming side, we introduced a host of new Alienware desktop and laptop systems from the massive Alienware ALX desktops to the Alienware M11x portable gaming notebook.

    Here’s a preview video:..."

huh... new m11x confirmed? this is on the ces 2011 page.

Edit... nevermind, upon re-reading the surrounding sentences a few times, I think he's referring to the M11x that was released at the PREVIOUS ces (which is kind silly, but whatver.) either way, hope springs eternal.

I don't know how you did it last time, but how you gonna pull off as good of a deal on R3 as you did with R2, or are you not even planning on getting one?

I'm pretty happy with the R2. If I can add in 6970M Xfire or whatever nVidia's 5xx series SLi, then I'll do it along with a 920xm.

I'm an upcoming college student and really badly want the m11x. The graphics are amazing, and I don't mind the occasional Dell repair for the hinges, but the processor is so weak :S

I really hope alienware announces an r3 m11x, or a new model under 13.3 inches with a full i-processor. Even the i3-370m would be amazing.

If and when the M11x goes SandyBridge it should get a nice boost, but I doubt we'll see that soon, or at least not for till around March to give a full year of R2 sales... maybe the i7-640UM will become the base processor and the i7-680UM the higher option?

I believe we will at least hear something about a 13+" laptop, it is too hot a market for Dellienware to ignore.

Not really up to speed on who is what in the dell company but this YouTube video released a few days ago has “Lionel Menchaca, Dell's chief blogger” saying that they will be releasing new Alienware desktops and laptops for CES 2011. I know that's kind of not new information but I was pleased to hear the words "desktop(S) and laptop(S)" too besides the m17x r3 laptop we're all expecting.

An m13x would be logical at this point. However, I think it's too early in the m11x life cycle to see a new refresh. I think they'll try to milk a few more miles out of the current R2, so I don't expect to see anything from the CES show about it (please oh please let me be wrong though!)

For a refreshed M11x, they probably want to use Sandy Bridge ULV CPUs, right? And those usually arrive last. So I also believe there will be nothing new about the M11x, except for a GPU refresh maybe.

It would be great if they announced M13x, because then their lineup is quite complete. And they could fit a real CPU in there.

The lack of a 13" is glaring now...

My guess is we will get announcements beyond the obvious R3 M17x, to planned revisions with possibly prototypes or previews of an M13x, M15x and the SB move on the M11x.

The one thing giving me some hope that we might see a massive refresh and addition of the M13x at CES now is that Dell acquired AW in part to use as a showcase for Dell I think, much the way Honda used to show off new tech in the Prelude line. With Intel clearly recognizing that mobile computing is the future, they are making moves, and the laptop manufacturers want in sooner rather than later.

These two points make me hopeful we might actually be surprised by what we hear. To get SB performance sooner (ie March time frame perhaps) would continue the buzz that has abated on the M11x-R1/R2 and provide a lot of reviews that would take the place of possible competitors getting blog time, etc.

I'm probably wrong, but this is the best argument for a move by Dellienware earlier rather than later.

I dont see AW being used as a showcase. The other lines got new stuff before we did. I think the lowly inspiron and XPS got i7 before we did. My boss's new XPS 17" has 3d display, Nvidia GT445 video, JBL sound, a 9 cell battery thats good for 7 1/2 hours and 16gb memory. Not mind blowing stuff, but all stuff we dont see yet.

Some of those product roadmaps were in line before the full integration of Alienware into the line up right? If they really just use it as a relatively small segment margin market I have to question the wisdom of even picking them up then. Like I said, its the only reason I can see them doing something sooner rather than later. My understanding is that the plan on acquisition of the AW marque was to have it be the high end consumer lineup, gaming centric of course, but a step up from the XPS lineup, is this not true?

Maybe they sell so few AW's to XPS that they get the tech in the XPS lineup first, then make an extended margin off the AW lineup for the same tech, never endangering the core Dell line.... all interesting to ponder because the decisions all go to how Dell wants to make it's money ;)

The stats you are describing may look good on paper but the truth is that your boss's XPS won't even come close to the current M17X in terms of performance. The 16gb memory is useless for gaming, the graphic card you mention is well below the 5870's performance and the overall design is plastic not to mention the JBL speakers which I've heard many times are worst than our current speakers in the M17X.

You cannot take what's on paper for technical specs and expect it to be better than older tech that has proven records.

I think a 13" is much more probable than a 14" since most of their models have odd numbers as the size like 11, 15, 17. I don't know, just putting it out there. And I agree it's way too close to the 15".

Oh no !!!! 16/9 sucks !!!! Is this the m17x r3 ?? first video?? Graphics look dam good though but is black ops demanding at all ??

If it is the r3, i can see by the thickness of the black borders that the machine could possibly have lost an inch in width and height. Just going on what i remember looking at my r2 an hour ago before I dropped it off to ups to get returned .

16/9 sucks tho dammit..... at least it will make it easier on the gpus to pump out strong #s in any game.
