Update! After talking to 4 different reps, I placed an order with the last rep for the Alienware M17x R3. He promised to match the first quote I got from the EPP site (I'm a college student). So now both Dell and the EPP site offered me $135 off. I asked the last rep if he could beat the EPP guy. After talking to his manager several times, they agreed to send some additional games and/or coupons in the mail later. Wowie Zowie. But I fugured that was the best I could do. I ordered.

Before I had ordered, on a whim I had emailed the first EPP guy again. I told him I could seal the deal if he threw in a free upgrade to the 6970M. 6 hours after ordering the other system (much to my suprise) he responded that he could do that. So I ran and called his number (again and again -- he was busy) and FINALLY I got him on the phone. He canceled my other order and added the new one with the free 6970M upgrade in about 10 minutes flat. He was great -- friendly, funny, helpful, and fast! :D He swapped my order in the nick of time -- 10 minutes before Dell closed for the night. And If I had waited to the next day, I would not have been able to cancel my old order.

Yeah, he's just a really nice guy. I stressed both a requirement for the computer for a project and a timeframe I needed to have it by. And you are welcome to mention that a friend recommended you. :D

I might have to give him a call tomorrow, although he may not like people calling him asking for the same deals :). I live in New York so I'm trying to get ~$150 off to cover taxes. Or maybe he can give me a really good deal on the 3 or 4 year warranty.

I called today try to cancel my order for extra discount, but I was told the order cancellation tips (discount when u trying to cancel ur order) DOES NOT work if your make order through Dell EPP. It can ONLY be applied to Dell Home (consumer) purchases.

    Anyone can confirm this?

I do apologize, but as there were previous messages with contact information given, including a post that said it was fine to post information if the rep said it was okay, it seemed like it was okay to do so

Another thing you can do guys:

On the M17x forums me and two other people called into Dell customer service and asked about our order and when we'd get it.. Just say something about time being tight and you might be out of town when it comes and they'll upgrade it. If they don't prod them a bit and say something like "is there any way I can upgrade the shipping?"

They'll instant upgrade you to next day air. Got my EDD pushed up 5 days.

Agreed. Supposedly it's a $67 value, according to the csr I spoke to when I first called in about the Intel fiasco, lolz.

There seems to be something like "NBD handling", meaning fast processing. I was told the NBD I had included that as a $129 value.

Anywhoo, for those who are having trouble contacting a "good" csr. Always ask to speak to their supervisor if they are unable to give you direct/good/trustworthy-sounding answers.

Easiest way to order is to call and ask for American rep. They're gonna try to get you to talk to them (Indian, Filipino, or Costa Rican), but try your best. If they refuse, hang up and try again. SEriously, you want an American rep if you've some hope of hagglin.

Hi there newbie here, thought I would share my knowledge from an hour phone call haggling yesterday. I managed to get the sales rep to knock £300 off a £3300 alienware m17x r3, this was after 4 times being told this is the rock bootom price, which I thought was a cracking deal but then lucky for my I have a business account and my manager was able to do just abit better and my final saving came to £502 all in all very pleased indeed.

One tip is dont max your system out ie. i went for middle option processor and get them to upgrade this once they dont want to move anymore on the price. This is an instant saving.

Good luck be persistant and if your not getting anywhere hang up try another rep

Hello. This is my first post, so please don't be too much hard on me if i didn't do something right.
I saw that you are really helpful so i'd like to ask you a few things. :)
Basically, i want to order a Alienware M17x R3 from dell.com, rather than the UK site, because the prices in Europe are much bigger than those in the USA. I'm from Bulgaria (if you don't know this is a small country in south-eastern Europe). So my question is if i try to haggle for the price of the laptop, will it work if they see that i am from another country? And even if it does, could you please tell me what you say to them, because i'm not quite sure what i should say. I want to do it because i'm on a budget and i saw that some users had got about 150-200 dollars off or a free upgrade. I want to get the basic configuration but with the 6970 and the final price is 1749, but i wonder if it could get any lower.
I'd be really thankful if you helped me. :)

While we don't know where cr0t3x is from, I believe California and maybe a couple of other states have imposed this bogus "Environmental Disposal Fee" on all new computer sales. They're treating computers the same as some states do car tires. Unfortunately, you have to pay that fee even if you are not replacing a computer that is on its way to a landfill, so it's an illegitimate and confiscatory fundraising scheme. There's no way around it. It's just another example of government and environmentalists partnering together to screw things up.

Hi, and welcome to NBR Forum. Glad you joined us, iNasko. I hope that all is well for you in Bulgaria.

Did you read the very first post on this thread? Some great examples of "things to say" are suggested there.

Hi guys, I finally am ready to order my new m17x r3. However, this is my first time trying to haggle with a rep, so do any of you mind supplying me with a rep who gave you a great deal? Also, I'm a college student, and how do I check if EPP is available for me? Last question, the 3d discount bundle is not available on the Dell university site. Is there any way to get it implimented? Otherwise, I would be better off just not using EPP

I think you're too new or have too few posts to PM. I'm also interested in your reps name and quote for the R3 system you ordered.

    I don't have an AIM :(
Could you post your email on your profile or something so I could ask you? Or I could give you my email?

Or could a moderator act as a middleman and let cr0t3x message me?

Compared to ya'll I got screwed!! My but still hurts come to think of it. All I got was $100 off. Manager wouldn't budge and couldn't care. This was also a US Sales rep.

Hell, I guess I'll just have to live with it. I got $3207 out the door before tax. Ouch.

Get the best price you can get online and then call in and ask if they can beat the price. If they cant call back again until you get someone who will. It may take time and persistence but remember good things come to those who wait.

Ok this is what I am being offered at the moment. I asked for NBD but they only offered me half off NBD so i told them I would wait. Is this a good deal or should ask for some more discounts like 10% for EPP. Here is my config:
